Let me tell you a story thrifty pals. Last year I was lucky enough to see Billy Joel live at Madison Square Garden: a real bucket list event for me, so I decided to buy a brand new tshirt as a souvenir. Very off brand. Anyway, as we walked to MSG there were loads of hawkers selling bootleg Billy tees for $10 but I thought: no, wait for the official merch. When we got inside the stadium, the tour tees were $65 and I didn’t even like them 😭 So decided to buy a bootleg on the way out but all the sellers had disappeared after the gig! Noooo! I decided this was the universe punishing me for even thinking about buying a brand new garment and resolved to find one on Vinted instead. And here we are, 13 months later! Happy Friday guys: we made it! After a very busy few days of endless transcribing and not getting dressed I’m celebrating surviving this week with this Hell Bunny dress and matching accessories, which is giving me large amounts of happiness this morning. First badly-lit hallway outfit selfie of 2024! And today we’re styling this very annoying hat which I love but goes with nothing I own. I’m trying it today with some red pops of colour, my trusty Topshop Jamie jeans and this vintage St Michael faux fur jacket as these Baltic conditions certainly justify this sort of outerwear 🥶 You can’t always pinpoint the origins of vintage pieces but I can tell you for sure that this was bought in the early 80s, most likely from M&S in Exeter, because it was my mum who did the purchasing 😁 I’ve loved this jacket since I was a little girl and last year mum finally got bored of me trying it on every time I visited and gifted it to me to keep. I have a good friend who I studied Japanese with at uni. We used to irritate our sensei by tailoring all possible verb conjugations around being a showgirl in Las Vegas (due to an unnatural preoccupation with the movie Showgirls) and she kept me well supplied with episodes of America’s Next Top Model throughout final year. One of life’s true gems! We also had/have a borderline obsession with a guy on our course which has led to many SINCLAIROGRAMS since 2006.
