This isn't exactly a mend. I went thrifting specifically for some polo shirts, and I was super excited to find a couple that had machine embroidered dragonflies on them. I became less excited when I tried them on and couldn't move my arms. I briefly considered buying them anyway and re-engineering the sleeves, but I reminded myself it was probably easier to just add a dragonfly to one that actually fit. So that's what I did. I used a dissolvable stabilizer (first time ever!), secondhand tatting thread from a lot I found on etsy, and a free printable from @needlenthreadmc to work this backstitch #dragonfly The more I look at it, the more mistakes I find, but that just makes me feel connected to it and like I should do another one. #slowfashion #slowfashionmovement #circularfashion #circularfashionrevolution #lovedclotheslast

I love summer, but with summer behind us in the southern hemisphere, I thought that I would share the #swimmers I made to reminisce about the summer that we've had. Meet the #stylamykonos by @stylapatterns made in this gorgeous red and white poppy #swimfabric I bought from a destash. I made the #tankini top with a neck flutter and plain bottom undies. In terms of construction, these #swimmers were an #easysew in comparison to the #makena #bathers that I previously made. And for my body shape I think this pattern is definitely more flattering. I love the v-neckline which is hightlighted by the flutter, the coverage of the tankini and the fact that they are a two-piece #bathingsuit which makes getting dressed and going to the bathroom a lot easier. Happy birthday to this cutie pie. Mace turns 1 today, and it feels like he was born yesterday. Today he is trying to walk, and tomorrow he will be graduating from college. Parents of adult children, you know what I mean by this statement. Mace is wearing his Gabriella’s Little Way that was knit with Cascade 220 superwash and Malabrigo Rios. The sweater is great for learning new techniques. The bottom up design features colorwork, Latvian Braid, three needle bind off, I-cord bind off and a zipper closure. Our test knitters are doing a grand job on this design, which publishes in two weeks. Looks like May will be a great month to celebrate good times - we have a birthday for Mace and his mommy, a trip to Florida and the publication of Gabriella’s Little Way. A common mistake... My eyes were opened even further this week in a random conversation with an op shop volunteer. Let me explain, I walked into the op shop and the first thing that caught my eye was this great handknitted long length coat. It came off the hanger and on my body and fit like a glove. It was definitely coming home with me. Following this, as I looked through the kids clothing rack, I found a second hand knitted cardi, which looked possibly too big to be a kid's size, so I took it to the change room to try it on, as I went to button it up, I realised it had some pretty large holes around the banding and buttonholes. I headed to the counter to purchase the first cardigan, but wanted to let the volunteers know about the second one with the holes. The gentleman instantly said "that's okay, I'll take it and put it in the bin". I said "wait what do you mean bin?" he assured me it's okay any damaged items get bailed up in a cage to be sent away. I questioned "where is away?" He laughed and admitted, "actually I don't know where away is, maybe it's somewhere overseas, who knows?" My sustainable heart couldn't handle this moment. I instantly tried to convince him that I would take the garment and mend it. He said I can't give it away. It has to get sent away. He agreed to sell it to me for one dollar, I paid and left the shop. Follow along for part two.... PURPLE REIGNS . . Fashion is a funny old thing isn’t it. I tried selling these incredible vintage purple flares at the recent pop up but as much as people were intrigued and made them nostalgic for fashion of the past, they had no takers. And I literally couldn’t GIVE this Farrah Fawcett jumper away when I was clearing out things I didn’t wear a couple of years ago. I have had it years from back in my faster period of fashion buying way back when. I find white a hard colour to pull off for many reasons, but put these two items together and they jut up against each other just perfectly. . . ✿ ✿ ✿ Textile finishing inspiration for the #RobertswoodKiT FLOWERPATCHWORK series (DIY projects) ✿ ✿ ✿ … For an alternative to a totally raw-edged finish, you could apply a tiny, narrow zigzag or other decorative machine-stitch (if your machine has them) to the outlines of your patches, 𝕓𝕖𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕖 cutting..
