The most current year (2023) of baby names here in the US was just released and I'm so surprised by some of these - what about you? Are your babies in the top 25 this year? Any names here that were on your list, but you didn't choose? Do you have any favorites on here? Any surprises? (Mine is definitely Luna - I actually love it, but I'm kind of shocked it was the 10th most used girl name in 2023?!) If you're a newborn photographer - have you had a lot of babies with these names? One of my babies made the list (my 14 year old, Lucas, which ranked at no. 39 the year he was born), but Annie didn't make top 25. The highest Annie's ever ranked, in 20 years, is 202 which is so wild to me. But so perfect because I absolutely love a baby name that everyone can say and spell, but isn't popular. Fun fact: I was given one of the most popular names during the time I was born (Hi, I'm a 'Jennifer' from the early 80s) BUT I was actually supposed to be a boy (apparently ultrasounds 40 years ago weren't as accurate ;) ) and my parents had my name chosen as Benjamin Oliver. I have major regrets. This is the first year I didn’t have photos taken (by me or someone else) of my kids/our family on our beach trip. I thought I’d be fine and still love ours so much from last year (like this one of my mom and babies). To be honest I was tired and burnt out from a busy few weeks before our trip and couldn’t even consider what to bring to wear for all 5 of us (a huge reason I do that for you, so you DON’T have to worry about that for your sessions) or giving up a night to getting ‘photo ready’ and go down to the beach to take them. Stories this week have been full of my mama bird 🐦 here at the studio and my emotional roller coaster of a scare, from thinking she's been kicked out of her nest and two total imposter birds had moved in to realizing... those are, in fact, the two babies from the two eggs that she was sitting on all this time. My son went on the emotional journey with me as I texted him to help me figure out this 'mystery', but we showed my daughter all of the stories later that evening she let me tell you, her face at the PLOT TWIST. I was driving into the studio for this morning's session and guess what I saw? The first blooms on our trees here in Nashville. Being in the last few days of February I'm predicting our Winter field will turn to a Spring field on the early side this year and it's bittersweet because Spring is going to be stunning out here, but look at this perfect winter light with these perfect babies. These always feel a little chaotic as I’m adding everything up because ALL of my sessions always include ALL of your immediate family members, so *technically* they’re all family sessions, right? But basically if there was a baby in your belly or a newborn in your session those got categorized into maternity and newborn sessions. 🍼 But here is the first glimpse into the end of the year stats here for 2023. 110 sessions (I worked really hard to pull that down about 30 sessions less than 2022, and said no to a lot) that were absolutely a perfect mix of maternity, newborn, babies, one year birthdays, and families here in my downtown Franklin studio and Nashville area.
