This session was a whirlwind of fun! We spent the morning together at one of my favorite locations. The boys had a blast running around and exploring, playing with mom and dad, and giving snuggles to their pup, Cindy Lu. And we were lucky enough to get Kwanzan cherry blossoms!! These blooms come out AFTER the Yoshino cherry blossoms (the classic DC ones everyone thinks about). They added a pretty pop of pink to the scene, perfect for spring photos! It was so hard to narrow down to a smaller set of photos, but here’s a look at their gorgeous session!
An extended family Longwood session from this past weekend!! I had so much fun with this family and we had a PERFECT overcast morning for our session! I love shooting in overcast weather, especially in the mornings because it gives us so much more flexibility! We don't have to worry about finding open shade or dodging weird shadows from the sun. The sky acts like a massive light diffuser!

Let’s talk Newborn Sessions! Here are some frequently asked questions: When should I book a newborn session? My calendar changes month to month so the sooner we can reserve your date the better. Usually around the 2nd trimester is a good time to inquire. How old should my baby be at the time of our session? I’ve found that 10-14 days within the birth of your baby is the best time. Usually because your baby is still in their sleepy stage which makes the session so much smoother. If that doesn’t work, I am ok with scheduling newborns up to 3 months of age, but just be aware the images may look a little different than a 1 to 2 week old. My baby is already here. Can I still book? I can’t guarantee my schedule will allow, but I will always try my hardest to fit you in if your baby has arrived and scheduling your session didn’t get checked off on your to do list. How can I reserve a date? I schedule a tentative date based on your due date. If baby arrives early or late I will always adjust the date as needed. The most challenging part is knowing what to write about, and when you know it, it’s the whole thing about putting all the words together. And why spend time on it, as the algorithm won’t show it to anyone anyway? But the possibility to post and market yourself on Instagram is a gift to all small business owners. It’s ok to raise a brow and wonder what I’m talking about, but just imagine how you should be able to market your business if it were 1996… Instagram is not always easy, but it can do magic for your business if it’s done right. I like to think of Instagram as a mini website. The information I have on my website is what I post about on Instagram but in a less “formal” way. That’s why you get 3 prewritten captions to personalize. These captions will help you address worries and concerns and share information in a more casual way. Once you have personalized the captions, you will also have three great drafts for blog posts as well. The first caption is a perfect example of that. Having a blog post that meets the worries about a not-too-enthusiastic partner can be very useful to send to your clients who struggle with this. I honestly thought that being pregnant this time would propel me to share more about my pregnancy journey this time around, but aside from nausea and fatigue, there really hasn't been much to discuss (which I am fairly grateful for). . Baby has been moving around in my belly a bit more as of late, and that has been really nice especially because then I can physically feel his daily presence. I feel like the second time around though, I could tell much earlier when I would feel like the sweep of a leg or limb rubbing around in there (is as early as 14 weeks a bit delusional of me though? haha). . Anyway, this is all to say that this is my way of sharing yet another bit of my pregnancy journey with you. All is well from what we can tell. Currently struggling through boy names pt 2. I don't know about you all out there, but I feel like there are so many good girl names out there, but boy names are so gosh darn hard for us to narrow down to a list. . One thing I've been focusing on more is finding ways to cultivate my creativity and emotional storytelling through the capture of details. As a photographer, I 100% think it's my job to capture the traditional, smiling portraits that people will use for Christmas cards or to hang on their wall, but as an artist, I also want to capture the little things you'll miss as your children grow older: the way tiny fingers curl around your thumb before they can walk on their own, or the way they fit so easily in your arms as they nestle against your shoulder, the texture of a soft, sweet hand with the impossibly soft skin that comes with babyhood. In my own home, our current season is made of fistfuls of sticks, rocks, and pinecones, digging in the dirt, haphazardly collected bouquets of wildflowers and weeds, and the wild abandon of carefree exploration. As I curate galleries of beautifully crafted images for my clients, it's my hope that they will find great joy and value in not only the traditional, send-to-your-mother-in-law portraits, but also in the small details that makes your loved ones yours. Taking a break from social for the week to prepare my heart and spirit for a very special conference at our church this weekend. 🤍 Steven and I lead an amazing small group curriculum that has literally changed our lives and it is our joy to serve people in such a meaningful way each semester! Tru confession: May is coming in HOT. And I’m not mad about it. I struggled for years to really know who I am and what success is for me and my family. . And I’ve learned part of that is I like to be busy. Sometimes being “busy” can be looked down on. But I don’t think that’s always the case. Some folks thrive on scheduling a full calendar, and that’s okay. At least I’ve learnt that’s okay for me. . Another is authentic photography. Oooooffff, and it’s tough. It’s tough to be vulnerable, open, real. And that’s because it hurts. It hurts to look at your pure sugar of a boy. And it’s joy. It’s so sweet. All of the goodness of life wrapped up in a moment. . And it s hard to hold those moments, right? I find myself overwhelmed by them. I want to push them away - they are so dear and fragile it hurts. . Last weekend was a busy one, but it was also SO MUCH FUN. I absolutely loved getting to photograph several PRECIOUS kiddos for heirloom portraits at Patty Cakes Children’s Boutique on Friday during their birthday celebration. Tulip fields forever 🌷🌷🌷 Location: Kuipers family farm 🌷 No permit required, only the entrance fee 😍 Time to go: we arrived at 10 am on a weekday when they opened and it was slowly getting busier as our session continued. I wouldn’t suggest 10 am however this day was overcast so I didn’t have to worry about the lighting being too harsh! 💓🌷💓 if it’s a sunny day, go in the evening for golden hour ✨ The tulips have a 3-4 week window and when we went they were at a 90% bloom, so most of them were perfect at the time! The best part is? There is so much more to do when you are there! They have rides and games for all ages, restrooms, food and drink, a store for purchasing little gifts, and more! It’s been hard to remember to post and share my work lately. Being in the postpartum world + a husband on an ER schedule means there’s been very little routine and pattern to my days. I just sneak in work whenever I can and each time I do, I remember how much I love it. How I leave a shoot feeling energized and more ready to be mom when I get home. Your family fuels my family. Generational photography sessions are, hands down, one of the most sentimental sessions I offer, and I get emotional every single time! It is amazing to witness the overflow of love I've seen pour from grandmas to their babies to their babies! It is beautiful. If you are lucky enough to have multiple generations in your family, I highly encourage you to document this time.
A big part of my heart for my business is showing you the value in actually doing something with your images so you can enjoy them every single day.
