I just cannot get this picture out of my head. I took it last summer standing outside Dayton Street Pizza in Westville. No filters, pure magic, nature just handed this to me. It’s just a tiny little pizza and pasta place. There are tables, but it’s mostly for take out. The food is amazing, but simple. And reasonably priced. The reason I’m posting is, that magic. I did something uncomfortable for my business today and you can too 👇 Today I gave an in person presentation to a bunch of women entrepreneurs about personal branding and how to show up as your brand through brand photography and it was amazing. 🤗 I have mostly done workshops virtual so with this being my first in person presentation I felt a little uncomfortable and nervous. But I didn’t psych myself out. Once I started feeling those, very familiar, nervous feelings I reminded myself of a few things: 1️⃣ There was nothing to be nervous about because I’m presenting on my area of expertise and I love talking about it 2️⃣ I am spreading awareness around something that will help other women entrepreneurs attract their ideal clients, build their dream businesses, and make money while doing it 3️⃣ Doing this can’t hurt me. It can only help. It can be so uncomfortable and intimidating doing something we’re not familiar with and putting ourselves out there but in the end it’s only going to benefit us. As business owners it is our duty to show up as our brands in order to truly make connections with our ideal clients whether that is by doing a presentation or showing up as our brand through brand photos. I understand how uncomfortable it can be having a photoshoot (especially if you’ve never done one before or had a bad experience working with someone else) but don’t forget that a lot of good (and growth!) comes out of being uncomfortable. So next time you feel nervous when taking a big step in your business and brand remind yourself of all of the benefits by you doing it. Here's a really simple and easy outfit planning method for family photo sessions. Moms, choose a casual dress from your closet that you feel good in (or, treat yourself to a new one - take a look at the organic, affordable dresses at Pact!). Then choose everyone else's outfits based on yours. If the dress has a pattern, pull out solid colors from the dress colors and put the kids and/or your partner in shirts that have those colors. Dads, if you're the one organizing clothing, how about a checkered casual button-down for you, and then the colors for everyone else are based on what's on that shirt? Jeans always look great in photo sessions for a more casual vibe. You can wear jeans in a color to make it feel one step less casual. Remember to build in a layer for everyone in this iffy season, especially if your session is around sunset. A vest or cardigan, perhaps? Layers look GREAT in photos and cold kids = unhappy kids!
