I love this age! I love chaos, and I love kids running and playing, as it’s when you get true authenticity. I speak about this often, but I can not stress enough, that when you have little kids, and your having family pics taken, go into the session knowing anything can happen, and that you need to stay positive, and focused on how you can redirect your babies to have fun if any of them become sad at any time during a session. It’s bound to happen, but we can still have success if it does! Don’t stress, get frustrated or angry, that’s the worst thing you can do. When this happens my mind immediately turns to what can I try to change the situation at hand. If I have parents doing the same, we can keep trying until something hits, and we can have success. Take this family as an example. Would you have any idea looking at these that the boys had a rough start to their session? When that happened, their parents stayed focus on comforting them and distracting them with something fun to do. It took a little bit of time, but before long, they were both smiling, laughing and having fun!! Success!! Had the parents reacted negatively to the situation, we would have had a very different outcome. Trust me, sad kiddos, or little ones who don’t want to have their picture taken, happens all the time. It truly is just part of the process, and if you go into your session expecting that, you will be ready and prepared to be in it to win it with me. 😄 I have seen just about every reaction a kid could possibly have, and 98% of the time, with the parents help, we’ve been able to turn every situation around. As for the other 2%, that typically had to do with extreme cold situations. Hence the reason I have made the decision not to shoot outdoors after the second weekend in November. Please know, I am a mom too, and I understand situations that can’t be turned around are out of our control. If that were to happen, I always work with the family to rectify the situation. I’ll never just deliver a bunch of images of your baby crying and call it a day. We can either reschedule or figure something else out. ;) I’ve got your back, and always have my families’ best interest in mind.
