Using #BohemianRhapsody by #Queen for a dramatic monologue. A deeper look at the song we all love to bang our heads to. Rather than do the song in its entirety, I stop prior to the judgement of the unseen forces. If I were to do a part two, I would be that portion. An afterlife judge and jury. Itโs ORIGINAL MONOLOGUE week again in class! The prompt this week was starting our scene with โOh my god I wishโฆโ and create something original and our own. โจ This monologue I wrote does not veer off most interactions I have with the specific people who do not and are not willing to understand the complexities and intersections of transracial adoption, which intersect with my other identities. What it means to have our story glorified everywhere and by everyone and never have a voice to speak up or share our truth. Get tone policed, shut down, and dismissed, and tone policed again, while we have an identity crisis in the meantime. While I took this on a creative route with the scene, the small glimpse of the dialogue, microaggressions, and racist and oppressive remarks I get about my own adoption trauma and racial identity is not new, happens every day, and this monologue allowed me to create something I wish I would tap into more when these mirroring moments happen. I challenge folks to do the work to understand these complexities more and implications of what you say to transracial adoptees. My life began the moment I chose myself and it's been a beautiful ride ever since. Feeling like I had to choose between my self and what I love to do was a decision I never wanted to make.
