The Young Adult Franciscan group visited Claregalway Franciscan friary last weekend and learned about some of the rich Franciscan heritage in this part of Ireland. Founded in 1250, the friars ministered here until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century when they were expelled. Well, I did it! And what's even better, I loved it! I was invited to give my very first University lecture last Saturday at the Diploma in Apiculture in the University of Galway. I've been really curious about the course since it began a few years ago, and was delighted to get the opportunity to attend for the day. Apart from my talk 'Sticky Business - An Introduction to Working with Propolis', I got a chance to demonstrate how to use and calibrate a Honey refractometer and talk about how to reduce moisture content in honey in for the second year students. I'll be giving my talk 'Sticky Business - An Introduction to Working with Propolis' for the second year students on Saturday 24 February in NUIG. Propolis is one of my favourite bee products, often referred to as Nature's Antiseptic Marvel, and I'm really looking forward to this opportunity to share my experience.
