Utterly beautiful 😍 This is their home. We are just guests. We make a point of arriving, walking, and exploring. We leave the moors exactly how we find it, and pick up any rubbish as we go along, not just for the wildlife but our dogs are scavengers and don't know what glass is. We dont want a vet bill because they trod on some glass or ate some gross food. We also don't appreciate seeing the sheep, cows, or horses ingesting food/plastics that aren't for them. From 19 miles away I took my gracious Vegas hosts @chefvivica & geoff on a 4.6-mile bluebird Sunday afternoon hike of Turtlehead Peak, a 6,017 ft. Peak on the Northwestern mountain skyline of Vegas in the @redrockcanyonlv. With 2,000 ft. of elevation gain this was no walk in the park, but spring was alive on a mild 70 degree day in the mountains. Quick cleanup (and sesh) at everyone’s favorite WS curb spot this afternoon between the rains. With the uptick in nice days, comes the uptick of park users…and unfortunately more complaints about trash and scrap wood features being left behind. Trying to stay on the Port of Seattle’s good side so we don’t finally wear out our welcome there. Stoked there’s been no real sign of more fires the last week or two, so thank you for that. Since it isn’t officially designated as a recreational section of the park (much less approved skate dot/park) there is no trash can on site. We may have gotten a little pass on the 2 or 3 little flat bars that have been there for the last 6 months, but we will still lose those if they keep being left out. For good measure, we always try to take some excess features that may still have a little bit of life left to one of the nearby skateparks when we can so they can still get used BUT we’d rather spend that time skating🤷♂️. And on another note, please PLEASE try to put up any features that were pulled out or left out when leaving as well. Big thanks for the handmade made clean up your trash sign, nice work. SOOOOOOOOOON👹👹👹👹👹 Ahhhhhhhh! Here I am, starting another long trail with an injury teehee. This time it’s a small fracture in my shoulder that I’ve been letting heal, pushing back my start date. This gear layout is lighter than my last set up — less than 12 pounds. I’m so grateful to my cousin (@meleeisland) and his family for letting John and I crash at his house while I heal. Our Table Mountain hike ended up being about three miles longer than we initially planned, but these girls are a bunch of absolute ROCK STARS. They made it all the way to Phantom Falls, and when we stopped to work on nature journals they made a ton of awesome observations and asked lots of great questions. We took a few minutes to identify some flowers, a regal horned lizard, some pipevine swallowtails, and even the tiniest little mite that was crawling around our picnic blanket (lil dude came out way too blurry for a positive id tho). Our favorite part though, was the nice, shady spot at the bottom of Ravine Falls. Special thanks to @johnmuirlaws' @wildwonderfoundation and @leavenotraceorg for the excellent resources we shared with the girls! I’ll be section hiking the Rideau Trail this summer with the group Women Who Explore! :) Got my Rideau Trail membership, and went off to join the group hike. We did 14.4km, and 214m of elevation gain. A good chunk of it was paved surface (cyclist pathways) or gravel, but once we crossed from Bell’s Corner’s, it turned more into a typical hiking trail. We hiked from Andrew Haydon Park to Stoney Swamp P6. We’ll be doing the next section in a few weeks, and return to the parliament section when the pathway opens up. Saw a porcupine up in a tree today, which was awesome! The area that the porcupine was in seemed like it had been hit by one of the tornadoes in the last few years. Just one part of the forest nearly completely blown down in a path. Was surreal to walk through Was happy to get out and hiking!
