The first time I came down to visit @uoftampa I saw a crew team rowing under the W Kennedy Blvd bridge and knew I had to be part of it and out on the water daily! UT’s women’s team was NCAA, so I joined the men’s crew (club) team my freshman year as their coxswain. I steered while the guys rowed from #UT, down the Hillsborough River, did sprints in the #Garrisonchannel and #Seddonchannel and occasionally rowed all the way around #davisisland We rowed close to some of the cruise ships leaving the port of Tampa and we traveled to regattas on weekends all over the southeast. We stayed in the dorms during spring break, practiced 1-2 x/ day and won our regional division and competed at the national level in Philly a week after classes let out. Each year, many college crew teams from the north would spend their spring breaks in Tampa for some relief from the cold and practice on the water.
