Our closing chapter in this weeks’ Dungeon Synth Sunday continues the pastoral medieval theme, with an assertively composed regicidal flourish in the form of @truewoodarcher ’s debut album To Pierce a Monarch. In the artist’s own words, this project is one of true iconoclastic lo-fidelity dark ambient dungeon synth, and was recorded midi-free, in single takes; though even that extensive descriptor falls short of conveying the characterful narrative and nuanced details of this storied album. The track titles infer the course of a tale, and it is one played out with compelling marvel as the music unfolds. A truly worthy headlining release from this new artist, that is mesmerising from the opening ominous drum beat, with its deliberately paced rhythm propelling the lister through the track by which time you find yourself drawn deep in this soundworld, among the Whispers in the Privy Council. We conclude our explorations through the strange hinterlands of esoteric ambience this week with the debut demo release from mysterious Indonesian artist, Wailing Forest. The stark crepuscular blue of the artwork is fitting prelude to the tones of the album. For our final featured album of Dungeon Synth Sunday this week we present an advance full stream of another forthcoming @realmandritual cassette release: the moving, fantastically evocative conceptual tribute to Japanese manga artist Kentaro Miura’s Beserk, by @orcus.ds and @grimfathermusic Streaming on the channel now! "The Interstice is a shallow layer of the Astral World which intermingles significantly with the Physical World, where the dead who did not realize they died and various astral beings reside." Melancholic Canterbury-based British synth composer Orcus paints a world of quietly tempestuous movements, that roll and crash into gently sombre eddys of quietude and solemn rippling melodies; while Grim Father ratchets up the tension while retaining the preceding themes, adding percussion and a heightened sense of drama, epic crescendos and narrative details to the background of dark ambience introduced by Orcus. For our final feature of this weeks’ Dungeon Synth Sunday, we bring you a pre-release premiere stream of Castlerock’s Sannomaru, released through @realmandritual on 13th May. Follow the linktree in our bio to our youtube. Sannomaru is the final chapter of the "Kuruwa Trilogy." Each release - Honmaru, Ninomaru, and Sannomaru - refers to the walls surrounding a castle, moving outward. In the same manner, this record moves outward musically and is the most dense in terms of instrumentation and composition. In our intros for the previous two chapters in this trilogy we described Castlerock as an exploratory tapestry of dreamy, hallucinogenic soundscapes and this album is an even richer, more intricate and intoxicating exposition of the themes, and suitably climactic as a result. Welcome to a new edition of Dungeon Synth Sunday on the Order channel, and a new month of artists illustrating our intro banner. This month, we are using the works of Kay Nielsen – a Danish illustrator of fantasy dioramas, landscapes, children’s books, and later in life a Disney artist, from which our first piece is taken – his dark concept art for Fantasia, ‘Night on Bald Mountain’. This eerie, alternate world that could have been, is a fitting prologue to our three albums of the week, which will offer up visions of fantasy lands, unsettling dreamscapes, and distant cosmic dystopian timescapes. We conclude this week’s Dungeon Synth Sunday with an ep inspired by Finnish nature and darkness, slowly drifting into the icy night time with the mournful, raw mysticism of @nortmarsh This is the third release, in an excellent series of eps from this project, composed, channelled, wrought to spectral life by Empyr; sculpting evocative paeans to naturalistic themes of the earth, nightsky, and woodlands, illustrated with an equally evocative, lo-fi character to the music. Dungeon Synth Sundays on the Order are our day to showcase releases within the scope of our ‘Order: CULT’ sister/sub group on Facebook; esoteric electronics of all kinds, from DS, to dark ambient, to drone, and noise – the latter of which is embodied by this next feature. The first @xenoglossyproductions release of the year is this split between two noisy experimental entities: Batrakos and Plasst. Batrakos is a three-piece of Thecodontion/Xenoglossy members Stilgar and Heliogabalus and Kuranes, owner of Glossolalia Records. The trio began as a raw black metal outfit, but have slowly evolved into a noise/drone band experimenting with organ ambience, shortwave radio static, samples. On the flipside, we have a longer-form track of delicately grinding distortion and glitching granite drone from Plasst - the noise side project of experimental artist Tommaso Busatto, of drone project Megasole, post-rock duo Gqqøqqq and former owner of underground label Casetta.
