Within this series, I place particular emphasis on dispersed and concentrated sculptural elements, which I refer to as Proto-Machines. These elements can only be fully developed in a virtual reality setting due to their material, extent, and imagined size and impact in gallery and installation environments. "The Other Real" embraces all glitches of the current state of the AI development and its capabilities and plays with the notions of glitchy reality merging and unfolding its layers. Proto-machines can also be understood as universal toys, inspired by Karel Čapek's R.U.R., an iconic concept concerning robotic sentient creatures. In today's world, we are increasingly astonished, perplexed, and even worried about the future of AI, as we slowly integrate advanced technologies into our daily lives. Whether openly used or hidden within intricate black boxes of software, many of these processes remain opaque to the average person. Inspired by the ubiquitous assistance provided by household appliances and devices, all of the Proto-Machines hypothetically and imaginatively gain sentience in the art world. On the last day of 2023, I want to highlight the last concert I went to for this year: Hinako Omori at Tolhuistuin (Zonzij) in Amsterdam. For the concert, they have placed chairs and rugs with cushions to give the audience the chance to enjoy the concert in their own way. The lighting was also darker than shown in the photos to create a typical intimate atmosphere as the focus was perfectly put on Hinako Omori and her equipment. I would describe Hinako Omori's music and performance as music therapy. It was definitely not a show you want to stand, but to sit or maybe lie down and relax. I noticed that some people in the audience were having difficulties staying awake. In my opinion, it is not a bad thing at all with this music as you get showered with a combination of soothing sound waves a touch of nature sounds and a beautiful voice that gave me goosebumps.
