„Peasant women“ - Malyavin Even from a long distance, the painting attracts attention with a sweeping manner of performance. With its intense color and bright pattern, it resembles a colorful carpet. Approaching the work, you can distinguish two large figures of peasant women - they seem to pose, flaunt in front of us. Their faces and hands are clearly visible, but the rest of the details sink in an expressive stream of strokes, conditionally outlining fluttering dresses and half-swister. Flattened figures, flowing fabrics of clothes, occupying the entire surface of the canvas, create the impression of a decorative plane, which is not hindered even by voluminously written heads. Images of Russian folk art involuntarily come to mind. Such temperamentally executed canvases, devoid of plot, genre, but with a bright and intense color, gained noisy fame to the artist Philip #Malyavin, a student of Ilya #Repin. A rostral column is a type of victory column originating in ancient #Greece and #Rome, where they were erected to commemorate a naval #military victory. Its defining characteristic is the integrated prows or rams of ships, representing captured or destroyed enemy ships. The name derives from the Latin rostrum meaning the bow of a naval vessel. Seated marble figures decorate the base of each column each representing the major rivers of Russia: the Volga and Dnieper at the northern Rostral Column, Neva and Volkhov at the southern one. The Rostral Columns were originally intended to serve as beacons and originally were topped by a light in the form of a Greek brazier and lit by oil. Vereschagin - „At the Doors of a Mosque“ The canvas refers to the Turkestan Series. At times the contemporaries called the artist “Vereshchagin of Tashkent” during these years to distinguish him from the painters of the same name. Vereshchagin was interested in the ethnography of the East no less than in battle scenes and he as a rule fascinated his viewers by unusual subjects and its treatment. The canvas as the most of his works was painted on the base of impressions from nature which he got during his travelling to Central Asia. It was there where the artist first conceived and then painted a series of genre compositions. The painting features the portal of the mosque Hazrat Yasawi venerated by Muslims as a sacred place and beggars at its door. A Fabergé egg is a jewelled egg created by the jewellery firm House of Fabergé, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. As many as 69 were created, of which 57 survive today. Virtually all were manufactured under the supervision of Peter Carl Fabergé between 1885 and 1917. The most famous are his 52 „Imperial“ eggs, 46 of which survive, made for the Russian emperors Alexander III and Nicholas II as Easter gifts for their wives and mothers. St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox stauropegic cathedral located in Kronstadt. It was built as a naval cathedral, i.e. a cathedral whose congregation was to be made up of members of the Imperial Russian Navy. The cathedral was built by the architect Vasily Kosyakov in the neo-Byzantine style in 1903–1913. The cathedral is under the patronage of St. Nicholas of Myra, the patron saint of sailors. Since 2013 it has had the status of the main cathedral of the Russian Navy. The Fabergé Museum in Saint Petersburg is a privately owned museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was established by Viktor Vekselberg and his Link of Times foundation in order to repatriate lost cultural valuables to Russia. The museum’s collection contains more than 4,000 works of decorative applied and fine arts, including gold and silver items, paintings, porcelain and bronze. The State Russian Museum on Arts Square in Saint Petersburg, is the world’s largest depository of Russian fine art. It is also one of the largest art museums in the world with total area over 30 hectares. In 2022 it attracted 2,651,688 visitors, ranking twelfth on list of most-visited art museums in the world. The museum was established on April 13, 1896, upon enthronement of the emperor Nicholas II to commemorate his father, Alexander III. Its original collection was composed of artworks taken from the Hermitage Museum, Alexander Palace, and the Imperial Academy of Arts. The grand opening took place on the 17 of March, 1898. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, many private collections were nationalized and relocated to the Russian Museum.
