A couple weeks ago, a friend picked me up in Reykjavik to take me to a surrounding mountain for a real Icelandic winter hike, snow knees deep and blizzard. As we kept walking up towards the top. Skies cleared out and allowed me to photograph this lone summerhouse in the valley, with some trees and the river near by. I've recently started to grow a strong interest for these houses recently, lone and remote in wide open landscapes. The basalt column canyon towers over a turquoise glacial river, making for one of the most stunning sights in the country. Afgelopen week alles op een rijtje gezet wat ik nog af wil maken dit jaar. Het is veeel! Helaas was mijn whale watching tour afgelast vanwege storm. Maar heb wel een heel leuk weekend gehad! Let’s be honest, all of Iceland is a photographer’s dream playground but if I had to pick a favorite spot for pictures, it would be Diamond Beach. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁: 📷 Dramatic landscapes. Everywhere we looked was jaw-dropping. 📷 The contract of white ice & black sand was so dramatic. 📷 Perfect lighting—thanks to a seemingly endless golden hour during summers in Iceland. 📷 So many options: Landscape, macro, portrait or motion shots. 📷 A chance to play with all your settings—you could spend hours here! 📷 A mix of nature and structures for a variety of backdrops. 📷 Ever changing scenery as iceberg pieces rush past you 𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀: 📷 Go late for that epic golden hour. This is great because you can adventure all day and still have time to take in all Diamond Beach has to offer. 📷 Go over to the Jökulsárlon for even more jaw-dropping backgrounds and witness the ice glow in the light of golden hour. 📷 Play, have fun and be creative! Sep 22, Iceland. First day of hiking on the 'real' reason for this trip to Iceland. In November 21, during my last trip, @albertoutdoors guided my family on an epic day in Thorsmork (sorry, again, bastardised spelling, but phone can't help it!). He mentioned that his company (@amarokadventures, run with the wonderful @moka_guide) organised a multi-day hiking trip off the beaten track in the Icelandic Highlands. Fast-forwarding a lot, I said take my money and here I was 💰😅. Will give more details about the trip as I go but, given the logistical difficulties presented by (a) the Highlands, and (b) long-distance hiking, joining a group of like-minded people made total sense. Ended up with a great bunch: I rarely travel as part of a group but this was the best group I've fallen in with so far. Had a blast, 10/10, highly recommend. So, this shot snapped off on our first hike. Was epic to see the Landmannalaugar area in the summer, and it was totally different to what we saw last November. I liked that the fore- and background were shadowed by clouds and that the light was focused on the steam vents. The sheer array of colours on show were quite something - even in the foreground here you can see the hint of mossy greens (man the moss was just luminous, neon green in places). Mad.
