アイスランド旅行３日目① シンクヴェトリル国立公園 ゴールデンサークルツアーに参加 レイキャビクからバスで人気観光地を3ヶ所巡るツアー。 １８人乗り小型バンで移動（座席が驚くほど狭かった💧） 1箇所目は、 世界遺産登録されているシンクヴェトリル国立公園。 北米大陸プレートとヨーロッパ大陸プレートの裂け目を見ることができる場所。 アイスランドはプレートの境目のちょうど真上にある（写真2枚目）ちなみに、日本はプレートの重なりの上にある。 通常この裂け目の大部分は海の中にあり見ることはできないのだけど、 アイスランドでは地上に出ているので、実際に見ることができる珍しい場所。 地上で見られるのはアイスランドとアフリカらしい。 海の中ではこうやって割れているのねぇと、 大自然の神秘に感動🥺 今でも毎年2センチずつ裂け目は広がっているんだって。 #アイスランド #アイスランド旅行 #icelandtravel #iceland Day 3 of the Iceland trip: Thingvellir National Park Joined the Golden Circle Tour, a popular bus tour from Reykjavik that visits three major tourist spots. Traveling in a small 18-seater van (the seats were surprisingly narrow💧). First stop was Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you can see the fissure between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Iceland sits directly above the boundary between these plates (see second photo), while Japan sits on top of overlapping plates. Normally, most of this fissure is underwater and not visible, but in Iceland, it's exposed on land, making it a rare sight. It's said that similar fissures can be seen in Africa. Witnessing how the earth splits beneath the sea was truly awe-inspiring 🥺 It's remarkable to think that the gap widens by 2 centimeters each year.

Stops to make on your Golden Circle tour. 1&2: Brúarfoss (I recommend parking at the paid parking area which is only a 5 minute walk to the falls) 3: Gullfoss 4: Geysir 5&6: Hrunalaug Hot Spring 7-9: Laugarvatn Fontana (geothermal bakery tour & thermal pools) 10: Friðheimar (this restaurant also doubles as a greenhouse, where they grow tomatoes all year round *You need to make a reservation because it gets busy) Bonus: Efstidalur Farm (family run farm with hotel, restaurant, and ice cream shop!) If you rent a car, why not spend a night away from Reykjavik and stay somewhere near the Golden Circle? I stayed at Hótel Laugarvatn which is right down the road from Laugarvatn Fontana and only 10 mins from Brúarfoss & Efstidalur. My personal itinerary recommendation would be to rent a car and drive the hour and a half from Reykjavik to Gullfoss, then head 10 mins down the road to Geysir. After which, make a stop at Friðheimar for lunch. From here it’s only a 20 min drive to Hrunalaug Hot Spring. Then you can head back 30 mins to Brúarfoss and spend the night somewhere near Laugarvatn. End your day with dinner & ice cream at Efstidalur. The following day, you can start with a geothermal bakery tour followed by a few hours relaxing in the thermal pools at Laugarvatn Fontana. Waking up to this streetscape in Reykjavik as the sun started to rise over Mt. Esja to the west one morning was just incredible for me. Nothing like I’ve ever seen 😍 Perfectly covered mounds of snow on everything, cute lit-up lamp posts, trees with no leaves, snow on trees, city commuters in puffer jackets and beanies, craving hot chocolate and just feeling every cell within my body just thriving in the -3c after coming from +38c summer in Australia. I felt so alive, soooo excited and just couldn’t believe I was walking around a snow covered town seeing mountains for days and cotton candy colours everywhere I looked! Eyjafjallajökull… try saying that 10x fast 😳 🌋 🗓️ March 13, 2024 - 📍South Coast, Iceland 🇮🇸 ✨ Day 2 on @efultimatebreak ‘s Iceland Winter Escape 🇮🇸 we went to explore the South Coast (Part 1)! Normally on this day you would tour the Golden Circle but due to weather the days were switched (which was for the better)! ✨ Our first stop on the tour was an Icelandic Horse farm!! I LOVE Icelandic horses and like to think of them as the Highland Cows of horses because they are just so cute 🥹. ✨ Our bus driver Michael knew the farm and farm and went out and led the group of Icelandic horses over so we could say hi and it it was definitely a highlight of the trip 🐴 ♥️ (photos 3-6) ✨ We then continued and made a quick photo stop to view Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano that famously erupted in 2010, causing enormous disruption to air travel across Western Europe. If you want to try and saying it here you go : ay- uh-fyaat-laa-yow-kl 🙃 (photos 1 & 2) ✨ We then continued on to our first official stop of the tour: Skógafoss. It is one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland, with a drop of some 197ft and a width of 82ft. We also had the opportunity to take the stairs to the top and both Alex and I went. 📍Skógafoss ~ Watervallen . Jippie weer on the road na een fijne overnachting. We reden richting Skógafoss en kwamen ervoor langs Seljanlandsfoss de waterval waar je onderdoor kan. Uiteraard zie je de meest vanzelfsprekende foto’s. Hoewel ik die in gedachten had laten de kids ons leiden. Niet puchen en dan maar niet HET perfecte plaatje maar dan het perfecte plaatje zoals wij hem goed vinden. Wat een avontuur, de weg naar de waterval, de regenboog die je zo mooi zag en dan erachter. Klein beetje spannend en eng vond onze jongste het maar toen hij zag dat hij er achter stond was hij trots. Daarna reden we naar de grote hoge waterval. Maeson wilde perse met de trap omhoog, en geloof mij dit was heel erg hoog. Maar wat ben ik trots op hem zelf omhoog en naar beneden. Ik heb geen hoogte vrees maar eenmaal boven kreeg ik de bibbers toen maeson daar stond het idee dat hij zou uitglijden . Wat hebben we genoten van het uitzicht. I’ll probably be recapping Iceland for weeks still 🤦🏼♀️⬇️ Day 3 was FULL. After our Ice Caves and Glacier Walk Tour with Icelandic Mountain Guides, we stayed within Vatnajökull National Park (where our tour started and also our campsite the night before… convenient spot!) and hiked some of the parks trails to Svartifoss and the Sjónarnípa viewpoint of the Skaftafellsjökull glacier tongue. The visitor center has many trail options (most of which are loops) to some different sites. Ours was a bit under a 5 mile loop but a very scenic and enjoyable hike. We absolutely loved seeing the glacier tongue and had to sit down for a few minutes just to enjoy it. Only downside: the wind was INSANE this day, but we didn’t blow away 😊 Once back from our hike, we packed up camp, used the quality bathroom facilities (which I personally think were the best of all the campsites we stayed at), and headed to Glacier Lagoon, then walked to have a view of Diamond Beach, and lastly drove to Vestrahorn and the Viking Village. Glacier Lagoon is quite busy but also breathtaking and worth a stop. Just be prepared to fight for parking and to pay as you have to at many Iceland spots upon entry (they snap your license plate’s photo). We were pretty tired but after a quick dinner at the Viking Village we still walked in the evening light to see the Viking Village and nice views of the Vestrahorn mountain we camped by that night. I would not recommend to have a meal at the Viking Village, but maybe just a treat. In addition, the village was neat to see but would be much cooler if it were actually authentic and not built for a movie scene. The best part of this stop for me were the mounds of soft, smooth black sound that looked other worldly. I was so in awe by them for what seemed like miles all around and wanted to run around in bare feet on the soft sound if it weren’t so cold. Let’s just say we were tired and ready for our warm shower and cozy van that night 😊
