This year, however, witnessed a spirited resurgence of Suzuki models making their mark early on. However all the Suzuki riders were out before the third round, setting the stage for a ZX-14 showdown once again. Jeremy Teasley etched a path of consistent victories, besting competitors Dennis Iannnotti, Tim Cottrell, and Jimmy Leach to stake his claim in the finals. Meanwhile, Caleb Holt carved his own route to the decisive round, claiming wins against Mike Geer, Chris Moore, Jamie Lopes, and Mike Davis, proving himself a formidable force. Competition Bike employs the three-round Chicago Shootout format for its racing, with a 13-strong field of Comp Bikes putting on plenty of entertaining racing for the packed crowd. Allen secured his spot in the final against runner-up Ken Collin with a round one win over David Willis, a bye in round two and a win from Rob Church in round three. Collin, meanwhile, had bested Gavin Dohnt and Willis in rounds one and two respectively while enjoying a bye in round three. I just think there's a different way to look at it. Some of us want the freedom to pull different rabbits out of our hat. Here's what I mean. I had the pleasure/privilege of visiting the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Denver Art Museum with my son, Tom. It was an immersive afternoon into da Vinci's multi-faceted genius. Docents, dressed in costumes from that era, used the dialect of the day to talk about their neighbor da Vinci as if they'd just shared a beer with him at the local pub. As they walk-talked us through his many different projects (e.g., Flying machines. Mona Lisa. The Vitruvian Man. Scuba gear.), I just kept thinking .... "What if someone had told Leonardo da Vinci to PICK A LANE??" What if they saw his paintings and said, "You're a really good artist. You should set everything else aside and stick with this." What if, while using his engineering skills to design war machines for the king (which is how he earned his living), he abandoned all his other interests? The world would have missed out on his many creative contributions. I’m not comparing myself to Leonardo da Vinci. It’s just that I think many creatives have a multitude of talents, not just one. If we follow the common advice to dedicate our entire career to ONE THING and ONE THING ONLY we miss out on other options that could be equally fulfilling. Case in point. I trademarked the term Tongue Fu!®30 years ago when I started speaking on it. I could have gone ALL-IN on that BIG IDEA and built a global empire around it. Certification programs. Keynotes. Books with my "mothership" title targeted to niche audiences like Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul. And I did that ... for a while. But then I was ready to move on.
