DIYA WALL HANGING 🪔💖✨ Some crafty fun using bits and bobs turned into a lovely little bit of Diwali decor that the kids made recently. Lantern Snip & Scoop! Diwali is incomplete without lanterns. Specially the handmade paper lanterns have been a special part of our family traditions and my sister and I are trying to continue with the tradition. I definitely want it to pass it over to my little one :) For now, i made this cardboard lantern to practice scooping and pouring. This is one of her favourite activities. I used two colored pebbles this time and try to use two different sizes to make it easy to separate them later. You can use any safe materials like flowers-leaves, grains (rice, pulses), pompoms, loose parts etc For 2nd activity, I added a pair of scissors to practice some cutting skills. Searching for Scarecrows 🔎 We took a trip out to @ntrufford today to see all the scarecrows in their woods. Little Red loved leading the way with his map and spotting the different creations. His favourites were Betty and Harry from The Scarecrows Wedding. Afterwards we went into the house to find the spooky friends hiding inside on their Halloween trail. DRAGON POST 🐉🔥✉️ ❤️🧡 A really simple little #bookishplay that we did on a rainy afternoon yesterday. This is such a great book and after reading it they wanted to make their own dragons. They asked me to draw the dragons “just like the book”which I attempted to 😅 Ms. 4 was keen to paint hers and she did so so carefully and meticulously. Mr.6 was keen to colour his but half way decided to add some paint on top.. they both have really different processes when it comes to doing something creative but I just encourage them to enjoy it rather than worry about the end result too much. And that it doesn’t need to be perfect to be fun or meaningful. We taped the piece of paper to some cardboard as a makeshift easel so that the watercolours wouldn’t rip it. A good trick if your kids want to paint on paper! Playdough We picked up these pots for 49p(!!!) in @homebargains - 2 colours in each pot. The pots have stamps on both ends and lighter ones all round 1 side. It kept him entertained for ages (I added some of our Playdough tools too) and he asked for it again the next day. Dinosaur eggs 🥚 Little Red loved digging into these eggs to find the baby dinosaur hiding inside. He then wanted to match them up with their adult dinosaur and test Mummy’s knowledge of their names! Rescue the animals! Nice simple play that kept Little Red entertained for ages. I added food colouring to the jelly we had to get the blue colour - I also soaked the animals over night afterwards and they’re all clear again! Monkey Sanctuary 🐒 We spent a lovely morning at the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe. The keepers were so knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. Little Red enjoyed chatting at the monkeys and wanted to know why they were digging, swinging, jumping etc We enjoyed a wild walk spotting animal footprints and guessing their owners. Rock pooling One of Little Red’s favourite thing we did in holiday was explore the rock pools on Hannafore beach. He loved climbing the rocks and peering into the water to see what was swimming around. Secret Garden Cafe We had our first visit to @thesecretgardencafechorley this week and it was beautiful. Little Red loved the ‘outside’ (indoor) area with food truck and bbq - he made a lot of kebabs! The outside is an ideal mix of things to climb up/over/in and areas to investigate. We loved searching for insects in the tuff tray and making music on the mat. Upstairs LR found the mini sensory area and loved watching the fish in the tube. We’ll definitely be back to investigate more! Peppa goes to the moon! We had to explore the Peppa space kit as Evie’s always been such a huge fan. We got out our Peppa characters (not included in the kit) and she explored taking them to the moon. We used the space insert and sensory rice mix for some play in our tray. FINE MOTOR FLORAL FLAMINGO 🦩🌸🌺🦩 Set up this activity for my little lady today. She loves pink and we had a bunch of my old birthday flowers that were dried up and ready to toss out so I decided to draw a flamingo on cardboard to make an upcycled, fine motor craft. She absolutely loved the feel of the dried flowers and applied glue with a paintbrush onto the dark pink side where she stuck the petals on. I had made a bunch of holes in the light pink section so she used the flowers with the stem to poke through those. That was her favourite part!
