My wife told me to build a busy board in late 2019 for our brand new daughter Eliza, born in Oct 2019. Well of course I went a little over board with being an engineer and space enthusiast that I am. I designed a space flight simulator busy board inspired by the up coming Artemis missions to the moon. I used #apollo11 archived communications, lift off, and other sounds I spliced together with #audacity to fit it all on an #adafruit fx sound board. The central controller interfacing with the buttons via I/O and the sound board with #UART is a #cypress #psoc4 system on a chip which I much prefer for hobby work. Main components mounted in the base of the box using #dinrail. The functions are communication: 12 tracks from the mission; launch: which has the actual count down and lift off but I used a Delta VI because the sound was better; shutdown: a simulated shutdown sequence with real mission comms mixed in; and finally docking: a mix of everyday sounds to simulate the docking sound. I made the switches based off Apollo switches I bought from #ConcordAerospace which I thought were pretty slick. All toggles light up when switched high. All rectangular push buttons in the center flash when pressed. Thereโs a voltage meter and an amp meter with real measurements. I have 2 joy sticks; a main engine throttle that has 4 indicators that light up slowly as you increase throttle and a RCS joystick that has a indicator for each direction which are tied to a static noise generator which simulates the thruster sound. I used #peoccreator for software and schematics. I used #frontpanelexpress editor for the initial panel and box design. I had to export to #visio to print onto clear plastic sheets for templates to build the box and panel. Like I said, I took it a little far lol. It took a little less than 2 years, $600, and 300+ hours of engineering and build time to complete. #Nasa #artemisnasa #orionspacecraft #space #engineering #diy

@slickspazz and I working on her Atomic Force Microscope. Got the #laserdiode working with an OPA743PA #OpAmp and FQP30N06L #MOSFET constant current source around 18mA. The laser is a red 650nm which is the same #wavelength as the unrelated #toslink #fiberoptic light I took a picture of the other day. Thought it might be useful to add a second MOSFET as a switch to cutoff the drain of the other MOSFET. Now the current source and laser diode can be turned On/Off with a #digital 1 or 0 coming from the PSoC. This current source has always been one of my favorites, it's really easy too. Just put a #voltage at the noninverting input, commonly done with a voltage divider.
