🌟Exploring #LocalHistory: the old "Strata putieddi" in #TerminiImerese 🌟📊 Dear friends, I would like to share with you a fascinating fragment of our town's local history, which takes us back to a time when the streets were #alive with the #colors and #sounds of the daily market. 🏘️ In Termini Imerese, there is a street called "Via Porta Erculea", still known locally as "'A Strata putieddi" today. This name may derive from the fact that in the past, many #commercial activities lined this #street, but this explanation may only be partial. 🛒 In reality, the denomination is primarily linked to the fact that the street begins from Piazza Liborio Arrigo, previously known as "Piazza Botteghelle" (from "bottega" that means shop in Italian and "putìa", the same meaning in Sicilian dialect). 📜 According to an ancient document from 1795, it was in this place that a lively #dailymarket was concentrated before moving to Via dei Bagni, known as "A Strata virdura". 🛍️📋The document regulated the arrangement of the #sellers' stalls, establishing that: "All the sellers of Piazza Botteghelle who do not own a shop must place their tables, benches, barrels, blocks, and similar items behind the fountain in the square, lining them up one next to the other, and only there can they sell their goods". 🌊 The fountain and the square are partially visible in a photo from the early 1900s; the fountain was later removed 😢 🌸 It's evocative to imagine this place like #CampodeiFiori in #Rome, with its lively crowd and vendors displaying their products every morning. It must have been a fascinating experience! ✨ These small pieces of history allow us to immerse ourselves in the past of our beloved city, discovering the #customs and #traditions that have shaped it over the centuries.
