It doesn’t have to be brand new, (as long as it’s CLEAN) you may have something knocking around in your wardrobe OR you can go & get yourself something from any online/high street shop! So whether it’s a top, joggers, leggings, shorts or a hoody - you decide what style of item you want, as long as you feel comfy & can move easily in it! Only stipulation is that it has to be PLAIN BLACK - no other logo or branding. BIRTHDAY UPDATE: So it’s my special birthday next month, a big milestone that I want to embrace with extra sass & confidence - something I know my #QueenSquad will surely help me with! 🔥🔥 However, I’m still struggling to decide what or who we should dance to… Last year I did three different decades of my absolute idol Janet Jackson so it was a different routine in each class & now I’m kicking myself for not saving that idea for this year lol! 🤦♀️ I have a few options but I’m just not sure how they’d go down…(swipe) 2. Gloria Estefan - my earliest dancing memory is as a 3 or 4 year old helping my mum with the hoover & shake & vac, dancing round the living room to Gloria’s infectious ‘123’ haha! And who doesn’t love a bit of OG Latin flava?! 3. Paula Abdul - my earliest memory of watching somebody dance how I wanted to dance was seeing Paula’s video to ‘Opposites Attract’ with the cartoon cat…loved her ever since! And she’s still inspiring artists today! 4. Janet Jackson - my forever Queen! Graduating from Paula to the infectious sounds of Janet & then seeing Paula dancing in Janet’s old videos - pure dance excitement for me! I’d happily do more Janet every day but would you guys?! 5. Madonna - I mean, 80s/90s Madonna was every little girls poster girl wasn’t she?! We’ve done an 80s class but not 90s era yet…& Vogue does still hold a special place in my heart after all these years! 6. Lady Gaga - my modern day Queen, the Mother Monster herself! The artist I’ve seen perform live the most times…yes we’ve done a LOT of her hits over the years but she’s made so many it’s hard not to lol! 7/8/9/10. Or do I go back to my youth & channel some of my fave female groups like TLC, Salt & Pepa, En Vogue or All Saints… WHY IS THIS SO HARD?!?! 😝 It just has to be special for such a milestone birthday but obv it needs to be fun for my Queens too & I know some of my choices are a bit more obscure…I feel a Diva Poll coming on lol! 😜 Please feel free to comment below with any thoughts or alt. suggestions! This week at DIVADANCE we had a very belated birthday to celebrate…our lovely Jackie had been patiently waiting since February! 🥳 There was only ever one choice for her birthday theme & that was Country Queen Shania Twain! 🤠 Quite fitting given the current Beyonce trend but we were going to do it OG style! Jackie’s chosen routine song was the undeniable classic: Man! I Feel Like A Woman! 🙌 I’ve been telling everyone that this theme was a first for me but it dawned on me this morning that I’ve actually dabbled in country before…as if I forgot my beloved Coyote Girl past! (Swipe for 2008 proof - excuse the 🍑) 😂 Anyway, given the fact I was suffering from a very real case of ‘The Disney Blues’ combined with the mother of all periods (😫), I decided to keep this one as simple as possible with the basic choreo but made sure there was still plenty of scope for my Divas to add their own personality! 💃🕺 Which they absolutely did in bucket loads! ✨ The end result was so much fun! We were heel digging, grape vining & lasooing the hell out of this 90s hit! Everybody smashed the routine & we laughed our way through both classes as always! 😝 Best of all though, the Birthday Queen had a fab class & not only that, she finally came out of the safety of her dark corner at the back of the gym & took her place front & centre which was just absolutely awesome to see! 😍 And do you know why she had the confidence to do that? Because we have created a safe space where EVERYONE is celebrated & empowered to be unapologetically their authentic self! The love in the room for Jackie at the end was simply beautiful & nothing makes me prouder than that show of solidarity from my #QueenSquad! 🫶 My only regret is that I was too drained from dancing with an absolutely splitting head ache both nights to actually record this weeks routine…😢 Will have to do a double-whammy next week instead! Thanks to all who came to class & hopefully I’ll see you all next week 👑💋

I had the best time in class this week with these absolute QUEENS! 👸🫅🤴 We were celebrating yet another birthday, this time a belated one as I’d had to unfortunately re-schedule so it was highly anticipated! 🙌 Our birthday Diva chose Lily Allen for their theme with a playlist of sing-a-long hits & the final routine to ‘Hard Out Here’ 💪 I’ll be honest, it was a bit tricky to choreograph at home with my kids in ear shot haha but it was so much fun! I decided to follow Lily’s lead & go for a tongue in cheek routine very much inspired by her music video lol! Tonight I went to the Victoria Hall in Stoke & watched a show called @queenztheshow …no clue what it was about before hand just something to do with drag…so right up my street! If I’m completely honest I don’t think I’ve ever felt more empowered, joyous, positive & inclusive than I have in that audience tonight on IWD of all days..✊🙌🫶 The performers were all incredibly talented, like jaw-droppingly talented - live vocals all whilst banging out sassy choreo & being ridiculously funny at the same time…! (When @divinadecampo is your best mate you have extremely high drag standards but these Queens SLAYED!) 🪭💃 Their message of love & unity was infectious & their mission statement of being bold, brave, authentic but above all else, kind was just pure perfection & delivered in the most beautiful way! 🥰 One thing that really stood out to me was the music - nearly every song was one that we have used at DIVADANCE, either as a routine, a warm up or a strut! And that was so affirming to know that I’m on the right track with my classes, constantly striving for a safe & celebratory space always represented by the confidence boosting playlist! 🎵🎶 This particular show is only on until 7th April & I can’t encourage you to see it enough - I’d go again tomorrow if I could! BUT never fear cos they’ll be back in Autumn ‘24 with a new show & if we don’t have a #QueenSquad outing I’ll eat my VIP Fan haha! 👑💋🪭💃🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

This week at DIVADANCE was our International Women’s Day celebration & it was so much fun! Despite being quiet due to numerous illnesses the room was filled with such a positive & joyous vibe! ✨🙌 The routine was actually an old one that I brought back from when we were doing our free online classes during lockdown! We danced to Grown Woman by Beyonce & again it was a bit of a thigh killer BUT so worth it just for the song lyrics alone! Everybody smashed the choreo & really enjoyed the touch of Afro beat flavour too! As it was such a long song I decided that the last minute and a half would be the perfect chance to get into a circle & just dance together…there was no pressure or expectation for anybody to go into the middle & freestyle sole but the invitation was there! And several of my Divas gave it a try & the atmosphere was electric! Everybody was cheering & celebrating each other, moving as themselves & it really was the perfect way to channel some IWD empowerment! ✊ Just another example of how we #inspireinclusion 🫶 every day at DIVADANCE, not just for IWD! I’m so thankful for my #QueenSquad 👑💋

This week at DIVADANCE we were celebrating two different members birthdays, which meant two different routines! 🥳 On Monday night in Alsager the lovely Jem chose a playlist that consisted of Flo Rida, Tinie Tempeh & T-Pain but her selected routine song was the huge hit ‘Low’ by Flo Rida! 🍎 There was a real buzz for this well-known tune & lots of jokes about dancing in slippers (aka boots with the fur!) 🤣 The song itself is really repetitive so I was able to make the choreo that little bit more intricate…obv the question was, how low would we go?! 😜 OMG what a thigh killer this ended up being! It was so much fun but the next day my legs were on FIRE haha! 🔥🔥 Tuesday night in Newcastle brought a different vibe for the lovely Alice’s 30th birthday! She chose an Ariana Grande themed playlist with her selected routine to ‘Be Alright’! 🤍 This song has such a positive energy & it was definitely a welcome relief for the thighs! 😂 Again it’s a repetitive song in terms of structure so the choreo could be more intricate…we also included a section of Ari’s official dance that she performs live (at Ali’s request) & that was so much fun! 🙌 In both classes this week, every single one of my #QueenSquad put in 110% & absolutely nailed the routines! I was so chuffed! It’s especially inspiring to see the progress they are all making when watching the class videos back - & that’s not just in their dance ability but their confidence too! 👏👏 It’s been another fab week & the community spirit in class has made me all the more excited for our International Women’s Day celebrations next week! I can’t wait to do more of what we love with the best group of Divas - let’s #InspireInclusion 🫶 See you all on the dance floor 👑💋
