“Such a shame you are so heavy cause you have a beautiful face” it’s actually such a shame that people need to constantly remind me that I’m not a size 0 and that I’m not the societal expectation of beautiful. It’s a shame that these unwarranted comments need to be expressed to me in check out lines as they eye my groceries. It’s an even bigger shame that they only see my pretty face and not my fierce loyalty, my huge and forgiving heart, my empathy, my intelligence, my work ethic and my over all love for people. I chose the name “ La Gordita Feliz” because I am actually a happy person and I’m not seeking any advise on how to change my body. My body is just a vessel for my spirit and I love every part of it, even the parts that people think are flaws. Aren’t there worse things in life besides being “fat”? I could be hateful, bitter, envious, undermining, hypocritical, a liar, a cheater, a snake, lazy or even untrustworthy. The actual “shame” is that people can’t see past my body because they themselves are too shallow to realize it.
