For sale! A spritely little city cruiser based around a beautiful lugged late ‘80s Graham Weigh frame made from Reynolds 531 Competition tubing. All brand new parts except for the vintage Rolls saddle and original seatpost. Ride quality is excellent, very smooth and responsive. It’s light too, around 9.5kgs with a lighter saddle & no pedals. The frame/forks are in excellent condition, some chips/paint touch ups decal scuffs but no dents or damage. Top tube is 55cm, seat tube 52.5cm. Approximate height range would be 5’7” - 5’10” but test rides are encouraged. Happy to swap stem and bars to achieve a shorter/longer reach. Seatpost is at maximum as pictured and a bit too small for me at 5’11, but with a long stem and seatpost I’d happily cruise on it! Gearing is 1x9 with an 11-34 cassette and 38t chainring. Price is £675 with the vintage Rolls saddle & the MKS Gordito pedals; cheaper options are available for those two components. Rosie wanted a comfortable cruiser for around town & beyond. This 1989 Dawes Galaxy mixte had most of its original parts but needed a few updates here and there. Secondhand Nitto bars & a new Nitto NTC stem sorted the position, with a Brooks B67S for some springy comfort and new Panaracer Pasela tyres rounding out the contact points. A very compact Stronglight chainset for sensible gears to cope with the city hills, with the ever-reliable Deore thumbshifters pushing the derailleurs around. Much lighter and agile than it looks, these are great bikes! Bob Jackson, J.R. (John Robert) Jackson, first opened shop in Leeds in 1935 as J.R.J. Cycles using money borrowed from his mother. He built bikes until WWII when all production had to be put on hold while Jackson served in the Royal Air Force. After the war, he restarted his bike-building business in full force, and in 1955 was able to purchase the historic British Merlin brand to begin producing Merlin frames in parallel with his J.R.J. frames. By the 1960s the company’s reputation as a quality builder of lightweight road and track frames had grown both in Britain and the U.S., and Jackson was handling production for multiple other bicycle brands as well. Eventually, a name change took place, and J.R.J. was dropped in favor of the more colloquial Bob Jackson moniker, and Bob Jackson Cycles continues to build frames under that name today even though Jackson passed away in 1999... First miles out in wild on the singlespeed. Really lovely bike to cruise around on, both on and off road. i have actually surprised myself by how much i like riding this. Long time coming…. I was spending more and more time riding my all road bike. Early last year, I started to consider having something a bit more personal made. I’ve been part of the @curtisbikes family for some time so this seemed the natural choice. After visiting Gary early last summer, we ran through everything, this became a bit of an anomaly in his line up. Being 650b specific we named it the GR6. A mix of @reynoldstechnology and @columbus_official tubing, it’s a fairly relaxed and comfortable frame that rides better than anticipated. Bolt on full length cable guides, and only the bottle mounts I’ll use. Shout out to Gary and Brian at Curtis for always exceeding expectations and putting up with my specifications. Thanks to Mark @bentleycomponents for delving deep into his archive and finding the last of his small diameter stainless steel seat bolts, which is silver soldered to the frame. Thanks to Dave @enigmapaintworks for genuinely being interested in this one and sourcing this beautiful 1970’s Ferrari Dino colour, I had taken a long time to finally decide on. With matching colour coded forks and stem it really bought it all to life. I like my bikes to look simple and OEM almost, a simple two colour paint scheme. Thanks to Brian @yellowbirdthreadworks for sending his first UK shipment to me earlier last year, the detailed brass Ruth Hill top cap and bar ends are a nice addition to this build. Some new parts, some from the previous bike, I couldn’t decide on cranks (I needed a wider Q factor for this frame) and bottom bracket, so I’ve fitted some spare Middleburn’s and a titanium Royce BB. NOS Chris King ISO limited Matte Jet hubs, the front axle was turned down on the lathe and modified to fit a 12 x100mm fork. I finished the raw aluminium by chemically blackening it. I wanted ISO’s for the full 72T CK experience.
