I was in the Dallas Fort Worth area and @pecanlodge was highly recommended by some of my foodie friends 🙂 I read online that the lines get long, so I showed up around 10:45am on a Wednesday and the wait was not long at all. There was only 3 groups in front of me. I’m assuming the lines are longer during the weekends. Either way, I would have waited in line for this BBQ! I’ve had many friends rave about this place, and being a taco aficionado, I was eager to try it out. And it did not disappoint! We started with the alambre which was perfect to share and was a great precursor to the rest of the meal. The ribeye taco was mouth-watering, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. Fresno’s newest and hottest restaurant in town is a must try! I’ve tried other hotpot restaurants in other cities, and since this is a first for Fresno, I had to try it out. I went for lunch on a Friday and there was a 15 minute wait, but the bar was wide open so we had a seat at the bar. The staff was very friendly and gave great recommendations. We started with Taiwanese popcorn chicken and chicken skewers. They have an amazing sauce bar where you can choose from about 8 different sauces. This was an added bonus for me because I love trying different sauces. Moving on to the hot pots, our bartender recommended the J Pot and Hai De Pot. You get your choice of a meat, starch, and spice level (options shown on the menu pic of the J Pot) we chose “medium” for the J Pot, and “very spicy” for the Hai De Pot. I must say, I love spicy food, and “very spicy” is, as stated, very spicy! 😄 The hottest choice on the menu is J’s Crazy Spicy, but I was told they have an even spicier option that’s not on the menu. If someone tries it out, please let me know! Overall the Hai De Pot was my favorite. It was full of flavor and full of seafood. Smoked Japanese Old Fashioned from Wasabi On Fire (Fresno, Willow and Nees) ~This delectable drink is first prepared by smoking the glass with smoked cherry wood chips. I chose the Akashi Japanese whiskey (there is also a choice of Ichiro’s whiskey) It was then mixed with orange bitters, herbal bitters, and sugar poured over a a big ice cube, garnished with black cherries and an orange rind. Tried out the #nikkeiramen pop-up restaurant tonight. We arrived right at 6pm and were seated right away. The sunomono 3-ways appetizer was a nice start, followed by fried checked miso ramen with homemade noodles and a perfectly cooked soft-boiled egg. The dessert was a delicious, light soufflé cheesecake (Japanese cheesecake) and was the perfect end to a tasty dinner 😊 *Side note* since we were the first group in, it was nice to see the support as we were leaving and saw dozens of people in line! Tried out Toshiko Ramen and Sushi Bar on Fulton St. in downtown Fresno. I ordered the Nagasaki Ramen (tonkotsu broth) and cucumber salad. Broth was delicious, and the serving size was plentiful. I was hearing good things about this steakhouse that recently opened on Willow and Nees in Clovis. I will probably go back just for the wine and his expertise :) Moving onto the food...I tried the bone-in ribeye, as well as the tomahawk. The tomahawk is what you expect a tomahawk to be when ordered at a restaurant...an eye-catching, Instagram-worthy, perfectly presented dish, and most importantly, tasted delicious.
