This book!!! I stumbled upon when I was going through a tough tough time, I was in complete darkness. I mean I never cry but that time made me cry my heart out. Wanted to jump off a cliff. This is a life saver. Finally a therapist who is kind to the parents of children with vulnerable nervous system. The book suggested proven strategies for tackling difficult behaviors in children but also makes us step in the shoes of the child and understand what is happening in their inside world. Makes me wonder, psychology as a subject is the answer to all human behavior and it's marvelous how only through kindness and compassion we can change the compass of human behaviors. . Also the book ends with meaningful strategies to combat caregiver burnout in handling children with various needs. . They disagree about everything from lifestyle to book genres since Rowan is a high school English teacher who loves the classics and Jack writes contemporary romances that Rowan has never touched. What is a girl to do when the grumpy party animal may have a softer side to him? Review: I genuinely had warm fuzzies from reading this book! Jessica Sherry absolutely nailed everything from the characters to the plot to navigating difficult topics with grace. From strangers to friends to lovers, I cried alongside Rowan with her downs and smiled and laughed with her ups. Jack also navigates his own trauma and communicates with Rowan in a way that feels as if they are real people. Jack is absolutely setting the highest bar for relationships in romance books. Does this mean that they are both perfect? Absolutely not! They are multi-faceted and feel like they are so real. I feel like this is especially true since I related so much with the main character, Rowan. She is such a relatable character for so many different parts of her personality and we get to experience them alongside her. It also helps that I also teach English and her interactions with her students shows that she is one of the best fictional teachers. This is a must read for anyone who loves romance novels! She includes some of my favorite tropes which include forced proximity and grumpy/sunshine. This is one of those books where I wish I could go back and read it again for the first time and experience the journey with the characters all over again. I loved Liska as a character she had her faults, she had dreams, and she truly wanted to grow and learn as she went. Although she sometimes failed she always seemed to keep trying and not take no for an answer even when it was hard. The Leszy was also such a great character as we got to know him we saw his fears and how much he came to love Liska and care for her. The magical forest and everything was so interesting and on top of that, the folklore was amazing and really helped add to the story. Listening to this book through audio while reading was so fun, it not only helped with pronunciation but also further added to the book. The way that Liska and the Leszy interacted was so cute and funny that it made the story that much better. I really enjoyed this one too because the characters are older than we see in most romances. 33 & 36, which made them much more relatable and mature in their conversations, conflict and draw to each other. 💚 This book!!! I read Mary Jane by @jessicaanyablau a couple years ago and I don’t see it getting passed around the book community as it should! I LOVED this story. The characters were lovable and I felt good after reading it. It’s a coming of age novel as well as a bit of a time piece, transporting the reader back to the 70s. Woah. This was a ride. @barbara.kingsolver I don’t know if I have read something so depressing and twinged with hope ever. Several times I thought I would stop because it was breaking my heart and yet I couldn’t let go of Demon and Angus. This story was so raw and truthful and painfully vulnerable about our ability to disconnect from each other in the mask of progress. This book is a tough look at the damage done by big pharma and so much more.
