Took a great trip with my son to Iowa to participate in the 30th anniversary of the Walldogs. This mural, along with 15 others were completed in 4 days! Artists from all over the world came out to lead projects and paint. The murals will go to surrounding towns in Wayne County. The community involvement and interest in these was great to see. Got these redone and put back up the other day. The originals were probably 25 years old and done by @johnmahl @jjsignsnm1974 . Swipe to see some of the old ones I took down. The owner wanted them to look the same as the originals. I guess it all went as planned because as I walked in to the shop to let the owner know I was done, one of his employees told him, "They look just like the old ones". He also wanted them to last a long time so he got them on alupanel with some @kirbypaintco black paint. The red stripe on the bricks got a refresh as well. This was super fun to recreate and these letters are beautiful! I finished this project today up in historic Pinos Altos, NM. @thebuckhornsaloon was built in 1865 and is still doing business today serving up tasty food and cold beverages. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! I was approached by the owners who wanted to refresh the lettering which had become almost unreadable They wanted to keep it aged to fit with the history and the look of the building. I could see the work of two other sign painters which was awesome to see. I painted the letters just like the last two sign painters did and I kept all the little quirks along with it. It was great to be a small part of this old, historic building. It's officially done! This began with a meeting between @youthmuralprogram and @mainstreetsilvercity last summer. Over multiple meetings, the kids decided what they wanted to include, found reference photos, got drawings dialed in and Karen Carr mocked it all up. The three nights leading up to spring break, we projected the design on the wall and very roughly sketched things up. Spring break had a full crew painting. After that we worked most Fridays and many Saturdays. Diana mixed all the colors for us...probably over 80 different ones! Jasper Erich-Bingham, Abby Egge Olgas, and Makiah Granadino were part of the summer crew and the spring crew. Aldo's YCC mural crew worked on it this spring. Fun fact: the building Little Toad Creek Brewery & Distillery - Silver City was built in 1890 and the "Silver City" lettering was from a postcard folder from 1915!
