I think today I went to Heaven, or a form of it at least, called Ptarmigan Ridge Trail on Mount Baker Elevation: 739 m Length: 19.0 km Duration: 6.5hrs with two breaks and 503 pictures! Terrain: Out & Back, rocky, muddy, mainly flat Rank: Itβs ranked as hard, but I would rank it as Moderate This trail is stunning anytime of the year, but doing it in the Fall made it spectacular! Itβs a long trail but fairly flat with a few moderate steep sections. You are rewarded by amazing views the minute you arrive to the parking lot and it doesnβt stop. Every mile opens up new views, with every turn you see beautyβ¦ from meadows painted with beautiful fall colors, to stunning snowy peaks brushed with fresh snow, to amazing peaks kissed by the sun. Our day started cold then warmed up to a lovely 19 degrees weather with a gentle breeze; just perfect for this Fall Hike. We walked through beautiful meadows, passed by lakes and made it all the way to Ptarmigan Ridge. This hike has a few summits you can stop at and turn around at if you are tired, but if you can, go all the way to the Ridge and you will be rewarded by heavenly views My silver tip: If you are 40, 50 or 70 and have knee or back pain and wondering if you can do this hike? YOU CAN! This trail is long but mainly flat with no scrambling and no rope assist which makes it gentle on your back and knees.
