👉Statistics Canada reports Canada's merchandise trade deficit reached $2.3 billion in March, the largest since June 2023, following February's $476 million surplus. March saw total exports drop by 5.3% to $62.6 billion, primarily due to a decrease in unwrought gold exports, which had surged in February. Exports of metal and non-metallic mineral products also declined by 17.4%. Imports decreased by 1.2% to $64.8 billion, with electronic and electrical equipment imports falling by 8.1%. Today is Equal Pay Day in Canada, April 16 represents the pay inequality that many women still face. The GREAT news is that the gender wage gap is slowly decreasing, and not all women make less than men depending on a variety of factors such as their age, race, or the industry that they work in and level of income (however, most still do make less than men). A big reason we feel it’s important to share this data is for information and learning, pay equality benefits all. Increasing wages for women does NOT decrease wages for men- let’s understand this and work together. Let’s talk about money 👉🏻 @moneytalksforher #equalpayday #equalpay #statscan #moneytalks #moneymindset #millennialmoney #womeninfinance #financialindependence #finance101 #investingforwomen #genderwagegap #investing101 #genderpaygap #moneywisdom

Canada’s inflation rate ticks up to 2.9% on higher gas prices! Core inflation eases, firming up case for Bank of Canada interest rate cut in June. Canada’s inflation rate ticked up in March but stayed within the Bank of Canada‘s target, firming up the case for a June interest rate cut. The consumer price index rose 2.9 per cent year over year in March, up from 2.8 per cent in February, according to Statistics Canada data released on Tuesday. Analysts had expected inflation to rise between 2.9 and 3 per cent. Bank of Montreal chief economist Douglas Porter said the data will likely keep the central bank on track for a June cut, but there is still another CPI report, the Federal Budget and a reading on gross domestic product to come before the next meeting. Statistics Canada said gasoline prices mainly drove the acceleration in headline inflation, as prices at the pump rose faster in March than in February. #StatsCan has announced that the annual inflation rate ticked higher in March compared with February. The increase was boosted by higher prices for gasoline, which rose 4.5% compared with a year earlier thanks to an increase in global oil prices. #InvestLendGrow #StatisticsCanada #CPI #Economy #Finance

March JOBS report reflects two very different economies on opposite sides of the border. The U.S. economy remains ever strong led by a resilient labor market showing job adds in Healthcare (72k), Government (71k), leisure and hospitality (49k) and construction (39k). North of the border Canada's unemployment rate saw it's largest increase jumping from 5.8% to 6.1% - the highest since the summer of 2022. The Canadian economy shed 2,200 jobs. Today's numbers should put pressure on the Bank of Canada to see the need to act independent and ahead of the U.S. in cutting interest rates. Fed Heads south of the border have begun to come out and question the need to cut rates in the U.S. These numbers will surely support the idea that the U.S. should remain steady and does not need to cut rates in the face of such a strong labor market and underlying economy. #MarchUnemployment #rates #UnemploymentRate #StatsCan #MOO #MortgageOptionsOntario

Canada’s annual inflation rate slowed to 2.8 per cent in February, helped by a deceleration in the cost of cellular services, groceries and internet access services, Statistics Canada said Tuesday. Economists had largely expected the rate to rise and undo some of the year’s early progress. Rent and mortgage interest costs continued to be primary drivers of the inflation rate, while gas prices also rose 0.8 per cent in February year-over-year after a significant four per cent decline in January.

📢 December’s inflation data was released this week and the numbers are higher than we had hoped. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 3.4% last month (up from 3.1% in November and October). 📈 While this is a huge improvement from the peak of 8.1% in June, 2022, we still haven’t settled into the 2-3% range the Bank of Canada (BOC) is aiming for. While some yo-yo-ing was expected on the way down, this increase has markets pricing in a BoC rate cut later in 2024 than originally anticipated. A few weeks ago the expectation was a rate cut in April, and that has now been bumped to June. 📆 The BoC makes their first announcement of 2024 next week (January 24th). Stay tuned to hear whether they increase, hold or drop the overnight rate. As always, I’m here with answers so drop your questions in the comments. ⬇️ #inflation #statscan #overnightrate #mortgagerates #cpi #bankofcanada #realestateinvestor #mortgagetipsformillennials #womeninbusiness #womenentrepreneur

With Canada’s headline inflation rate once again trending downward, Wednesday’s Bank of Canada rate decision is now looking decidedly more like a rate hold. Last week, Statistics Canada reported that headline CPI inflation rose 3.8% in September, down from August’s 4% growth. The drop was due largely to lower prices for groceries, durable goods and travel-related services. #inflation #inflationrate #BankofCanada #interestrates #ratehold #StatsCan #realestate #mortgage #mortgagebroker #mortgageagent #velomortgage #kitchener #waterloo

The unemployment rate was unchanged in September and stood at 5.5% for the third consecutive month. Employment rose by 64,000 (+0.3%) in September, following an increase of 40,000 (+0.2%) in August. Employment increased among core-aged (aged 25 to 54 years) women (+37,000; +0.6%) and men (+32,000; +0.5%), while it was little changed for youth aged 15 to 24 and people aged 55 and older. Given the pace of population growth recorded in recent months, employment gains of approximately 50,000 per month are needed for the employment rate to remain constant. #StatsCan #UnemploymentRate

According to #StatsCan, 98% of Canada’s population growth came from international migration between July 2022 and 2023. Despite historic low birth rates, Canada’s population growth rate over those twelve months was an unprecedented 2.9% — a rate that’s higher than most African countries. Of course, whereas most African nations are known for high fertility, Canada’s boom can be attributed to “a high number of immigrants (468,817) and an increase in the number of non-permanent residents (+697,701),” StatsCan reported. Canada’s population is now estimated to be over 40 million. If this trend persists, which the Trudeau Liberals’ record-high immigration targets suggest will happen, Canada could witness a doubling of its population within 25 years. Remarkably, non-permanent residents in Canada have surged to an estimated 2,198,679 as of July 1, 2023 — a 46% increase from the previous year. This surpasses the entire population count of all Indigenous people in #Canada. https://tinyurl.com/mvvusdyd #TrudeauMustGo #Trudeau

Yikes! A CIBC Capital Market report indicates the official number of non-permanent residents cited by policymakers could be off by as much as 1 million people. This has huge implications as it means that even more housing is needed to meet the needs of Canadians...a number that already seemed impossible to meet in the short-term. . . . . . #statscan #populationgrowth #torontorealestate #tore #supplyanddemand

Canada issues retail sales update. In June, retail sales grew by 0.1% to $65.9 billion, driven by new car sales, according to Statistics Canada. Motor vehicle and parts dealers recorded a 2.5% rise, led by new car dealers’ 2.9% gain. However, core retail sales, excluding specific sectors, decreased by 0.9% in June, indicating that consumer spending may be slowing. StatsCan reported that retail sales in the second quarter were largely unchanged but sales volume fell by 0.8%. General merchandise stores and food and beverage retailers observed declines of 1.4% and 0.9%, respectively. There is some concern about consumer spending power for the second half of 2023. StatsCan’s preliminary estimate for July is for a 0.4% gain in retail sales. #StatsCan #retailsales #CanadaLife
