Here is what I wore to Steampunks in Space. Friday night - blue green tartan - this outfit is actually 6 years old and the only thing I need to do is it is make a larger pocket for my phone. Saturday - 4th Doctor outfit - this was made earlier this year and I have been wearing the scarf as a regular scarf. Saturday night - yellow tartan - this is an unusual dress. The yellow tartan is in strips and it can be worn over any under dress - it makes for really fun twirls. Sunday - purple cord and Cheshire - this is a remade outfit, the original version of the outfit was made 6 years ago. Not fully visible my new white super platform boots and the bustle under the skirt. . I will do a proper write-up for each outfit on my Minerva page. . It was a great event, I just wish it wasn't so far south - it took me 6 hours driving to get back to my furball. Anno 1900 is our traditional last event of the season. Steamtrains, giant rusty machines and no camp: which means we leave the more practical outfits at home and can go for a bit more silly and over the top. It also means a lot of last minute creativity. Prof. Rhineford pieced together a mage's staff and headpiece and Mr. McDabble pimped out his kilt with a sporran, hose knife, flashes and a broad belt. Elftopia saw the debut of some new outfits, including our first matching outfit! It was a sewing race against the clock but the results are absolutely worth it. The red colour stood out amongst the usual earth tones. The flower pattern on the robe, corset, vest and both hats pulled everything together. we didn't even switch outfits for the next day because we liked it so much. 🎩📍Sometimes things don't work... This outfit was made last year. Am still trying to figure out how to create decent #steampunk costumes. 🧵👍 When wearing them, carrying safety pins & a sewing kit is handy for when things don't go to plan 😆. 👀The top was too short, so have added black net & lace at the bottom. It was too big to the front so front toggles were unstitched, then repositioned. Need to take the skirt up too... have tripped up WAY too many times 😂. ♻️It was made from a deconstructed long sleeved jacket & toggles from one of those Moroccan belts I posted yesterday. The skirt was created from 3 different ones - 2 I used to wear for work & a long black wedding dress skirt from Ebay.✂️ It usually has a hooped underskirt. The grey neck ruffle was from a dress (might create a fan bag from remaining material) There are various handsewn trims & sequins to complete the look 🙂
Another skirt and waistcoat set I finished last week. Waistcoat is the Joy Woven Waistcoat by Style Arc and the skirt is a self drafted, zero waste, design. 1m square with a circle cut out for the waist and 4 x 1m x 50cm rectangles. A few photos from the Ryhope Engines Museum and it's Steampunk weekend. The place is amazing, if you get a chance to go on a weekend when it's in Steam go. . . . Dress is a combination of 3 patterns and extra adaptions - such as pockets. Patterns were Vogue (bodice and skirt) and Simplicity (sleeves) The ruffles at the back are a removable over-skirt so the dress can be worn for everyday as well as steampunk. The dress was started late on Wednesday (when I saw the weather forecast being a lot hotter than I had expected), and was finished Friday afternoon. The overskirt was done freehand and I will make more overskirts using this idea for more of my dresses as that means I can make them more steampunk when I want to. . Beamish photos still haven't been colour adjusted - I spent a lot of time colour matching then the sun just overpowered my phone's camera to make it seem far brighter than it actually was. . Dress, overskirt and Cheshire - made by me. Corset - a distributor/seller on Etsy. Hat - Village hats - the Author fedora. Sandals - Doc's - what other brand could I choose. Capri tights - Snag tights - may not really be visible though. Goggles - Black skull armoury on Etsy. It had been three years but yesterday we finally got back to Anno 1900: a steampunk-convention on an old train/mining site in Fond-de-Gras, Luxembourg. The location breathes atmosphere: you literally take an old steam-train into a different world. It was a day of (re)connecting with friends, old and new, just with the family. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, managed to see a few shows, had a lot of wonderful chats, great reactions to our attire and A LOT of pictures taken. Good vibes all around.
