Last day of my Wearability Series is CARE. Many factors affect a garment's ease of upkeep and the ability to keep it clean. White and light colours show grime on only one wear, while dark colours attract lint. Synthetics retain stains and many white garments will yellow or grey over time and not just under the arms. Textured fabrics attract dirt. If a garment spends more time at the cleaners or in the laundry hamper than it does in your closet it may not be worth keeping. Figure out how often you will wear it and what the ongoing cost of the care will be. For some of you, laundry costs are just a fact of life, while many others are more excited by the notion of wash and wear. Can you be bothered ironing this garment every time you wear it? I remember once, many years ago, purchasing a skirt for $15 or $20. It was a steal I thought until I discovered it was a dry clean only garment. What a complete waste of money it was. I never wore it again. Luckily most machines and fabrics do play nice together these days, but it is really worth considering before you invest in a garment. Understanding body balance is not just for the women. It is very applicable to men and these three guys are a great example of differing body balances. When you are looking at bold and rich colours, ask yourself. If I pop that colour on, is it me wearing me or am I wearing it? I love it when I hear a shop assistant say, with the right lipstick that colour will look amazing. Or what they are really saying is that colour looks shite on you but you can make it work. With my clients, I love to let them know that they can wear anything, and the colours I recommend do not require any additional tanning, cosmetics or hair colouring to work.
