This allows the gator to glide along with most of his body under the surface, where his prey cannot see him approaching. There is, however, a downside to this placement: Because a gator's eyes face the sides instead of straight ahead, he has a blind spot in the front and center of his field of vision, just like a chicken.

Visited a swamp with my own swamp creature. We chose @beyondthebayoutours because the didn't feed the animals, it was just a calm ride through a gorgeous swamp, marsh and lake, and if you saw something, great and if not welcome to a nature where alligators aren't fed marshmallows. We did end up seeing gators despite the fact that they aren't baited which is even more magical and cool. SO many birds, a snake, and a turtle. All while learning about the area and ecosystem of the swamp. Highly recommend this tour company. They were so easy to work with and so kind and knowledgeable!! The driver even dropped us off at a seafood boil and recommend a fantastic place for poboys both in areas NOT in the French Quarter! #neworleans #swamptour #louisiana

Animals that live in and around the swamp, gators, wild pigs, bears and snakes makes for a boat tour only and a short hike we didn’t want to take. 😂 The gators are currently coming out of hibernation with some of the bigger ones just now appearing. They physically can’t eat until their body temperature reaches 70 degrees then after that it’s game on to fill their empty belly’s! The 3-4 foot ones only need a hand or a foot. Alan was all like ‘ I’d like to keep my body parts for climbing’ lol…but we also learned gators let the prey close the gap so not noticing them works in their favor. When they’re in the water and they drop their head down so just their eyes are poking up they are wanting to strike.
