On Wednesday last week a new arrival to the flock was spotted with blood on his feathers and marks on his feathers consistent with a collision. Katie Elizabeth O’Rourke went to check on him and called Gill Walker who was nearby and both her and Andy Miller came straight to assess him. Gill noted he had an injury to his beak which had spread the blood to his feathers during preening. He was alert and happy to eat the softer bread provided. Gill made the decision he should remain on the pond under the close supervision of Katie. On Saturday Gill Walker and @louisas.lens were out at three different locations where in past years there have been emergencies with cygnets unable to get back to their nest. In location 1 the water level can drop without notice, and the cygnets cannot get over the concrete ‘lip’, so the thick rubber mat extends into the water and will help if the water level drops. The situation is similar at Location 3, where the new ramp is hidden by trees. At location 2 the bank is steep and some distance above the water. The old pallet ramp that was put in last year had fallen away and was heavy with water and mud and difficult to move. MORNING WALK This piece is inspired by my daily morning walk along the water in our Dutch polder landscape. I walk with my dog and we're always accompanied by hares, pheasants, coots, geese and sometimes... these beautiful swans. Sometimes it's just this beautiful couple peaceful swimming together and sometimes they gather around on the fields in a group of 20 swans! It's not even possible to not notice such a big group, with their white color in the brown and green landscape. Which animals do you see on your walks?

It’s been a sad few days at Hollow Pond as we lost our brave little Swan known as the Bean, or Beanie. This swan had suffered Avian Flu when it hit Hollow Pond a couple of years ago. She was one of the survivors but was left with a weak neck and looked quite disabled. However, she seemed to enjoy her life very much, zipping around with the flock and always getting special attention and extra food ( often hand fed) from the three Hollow Swan Watchers, Tina Sharp Isobel Gordon and Flossie Price On Sunday 21st April, she was seen, fussed and fed by Tina and was in fine form. On Monday when Flossie went up, she was off her food, but other than that ok. Flossie was worried and called Gill Walker. In view of the lack of appetite being new, they decided to review her in the morning. Very unexpectedly, Beanie had died by the morning. 🦢🌈🦢 She was a wild animal, so we can only say that she lived the life she was supposed to live with a bit of extra support from the watchers. But, she was a cute swan who knew how to get the humans to bring her foody delights. How's your day going ? I'm spending many more hours than planned on measuring, some more measuring, eyeballing if the painting doesn't look better when I move it 2 mm sidewards 😅, taping passe-partouts on the painting -on exactly the right spot-, cleaning both sides of the glasses in frames, let dry before putting the paintings in and... get it out... blow away an eyelash or tiny crumble of paper or dust that wasn't there before... every time... 🤣🙈. It's all in the game. I'm doing preparations for the art route in my hometown Nijbroek (between Apeldoorn and Deventer, the Netherlands) at June 1st, so I'm on schedule. And what makes it all worth is that I'm very proud when I look at the framed piece, every time. It makes my day. It elevates the painting so much 😍🙌🎨 I hope they all gonna lighten up someone else's home!
