Il nuovo murales del PonDerat Qualcuno si ricorderà del murales realizzato nel 2019 per il PonDerat. Ricapitoliamo per i nuovi arrivati. Durante le prime missioni a Ventotene, notammo subito gli straordinari murales che punteggiavano l'isola, dal molo alla spiaggia, dal Museo delle migrazioni alla facciata della Scuola "Altiero Spinelli". Erano stati realizzati durante un festival di street art che si svolgeva sull'isola in quegli anni: @blueflowventotene . Venne immediata l'idea di un "murales per il PonDerat". Il risultato fu la bellissima berta maggiore di @ar_krayon che ebbe tanto successo e portò molta visibilità al progetto. Purtroppo, la posizione (sulla spiaggia, molto vicina al mare), sicuramente scenografica, fu anche causa della scomparsa dell'opera dopo un paio d'anni. Ma gli apprezzamenti per quell'opera furono tanti. Seguirono poi gli anni della pandemia da Covid 19 con relativo stop al festival. Ma non vedevamo l'ora di ripetere l'esperimento, forti anche dei complimenti ufficiali della Commissione europea che auspicava il rifacimento del murales! E veniamo al 2024, quando ci arriva la notizia che si sta tentando di ridare vita a Blueflow. Contattiamo l'organizzatrice Marta di Meglio e le lanciamo la sfida di un nuovo murales dedicato alle berte e al nostro progetto. E grazie al supporto della Riserva Statale delle Isole di Ventotene e Santo Stefano, siamo riusciti a realizzarlo. La scelta questa volta cade su un altro grande street writer, Daniele Tozzi. Ci parliamo al telefono un paio di volte ed ecco la bozza che ci arriva via smartphone. Bellissima. E quindi a fine marzo si torna a dipingere sulla spiaggia. Lo stile è diverso ma la sensibilità è la stessa. Anche questo nuovo murales riesce a trasmettere un messaggio di amore e rispetto verso questi uccelli migratori così affascinanti e verso le isole così importanti per i loro viaggi. E il logo del @lifeprogramme campeggia di nuovo in uno dei murales di Ventotene. Vedere già dopo pochi giorni, gli accompagnatori delle scuole che affollano l'isola in primavera usare il murales come strumento di divulgazione ambientale è per noi la migliore ricompensa. 🌊 Exciting update from BirdLife Australia’s Australasian Seabird Group🐦 Our researchers recently set off to Cabbage Tree Island (Worimi Country) and Barunguba-Montague Island (Yuin Country), crucial breeding sites for Australia's rarest endemic seabird, the Gould's Petrel. We counted how many chicks survived to fledging age, calculated breeding success (the proportion of eggs laid that successfully produced fledglings) and placed uniquely numbered bands on the chicks' legs to identify individuals. Here's what we found: 🌟 174 fledglings and 66% breeding success at Cabbage Tree Island 🌟 15 fledglings and 32% breeding success at Barunguba-Montague Island Despite conservation efforts, the Gould's Petrel population on Cabbage Tree Island is declining. Our team is working hard to try and pinpoint the cause of this decline using body condition, diet and at-sea tracking data. Keep an eye out for more updates as we work to protect Australia's seabirds and where they live! 🤝This project received funding from the Australian Government through the Our Marine Parks Grants program.
