Students have set up encampment in UCD, demanding divestment from not only Israeli institutions, but from all companies tied to military manufacturing. Due to every university in Gaza being destroyed, students want a number of scholarships for Palestinian students. Students demand their university make a statement condemning the ongoing disproportionate slaughtering of Palestinian people, and call for an end to the ongoing genocide. Following the successful movement in Trinity, we have hope that UCD will listen to the student's demands. Students have always been on the right side of history. Find a family through Operation Olive Branch and donate to help a family from Gaza evacuate when the boarder opens back up. 4.) Join a protest or rally in your area, there are actions happening all across the United States right now. 5.) Support a student encampment at a local university near you. 6.) Repost and share Palestinian content, have conversations in your community, use your attention for good. 7.) Get educated, read up on Palestinian history, there are so many books, podcasts and lectures out there that are wonderful resources. 8.) Boycott/ Block celebrities, brands and corporations that support genocide, you can find lists through @bdsnationalcommittee and @blockout.2024 . 9.) Remember to center and amplify Palestinian voices and stories by following journalists and activists both on the ground in Palestine and in the Diaspora. 10.) Stay engaged, remember your voice, attention, and money have power. Do not become complacent. There are so many ways to get involved and it is our human duty to take care of one another. In the style of dozens of universities around the world, an encampment was set up in Trinity College Dublin last Friday, 3rd May, to protest its academic and financial ties with the Israeli war machine. In response to the encampment, management had proceeded to lockdown the college, so that protests had to happen outside the college in support with the encampment. However, Trinity College Dublin has agreed to divest from all Israeli corporations operating in occupied Palestinian territory. This is a huge win for the students of Trinity College Dublin. This movement goes to show that direct action works. The Revolutionary Communists of Ireland are in full support of this movement. NOT A CENT, NOT A BULLET FOR THE ISARELI WAR MACHINE! We need to extended the struggle as wide as possible. Our members have been taking part and will continue to do so in the coming days. Bookstagram has its downfalls for sure but I’m so intensely grateful for the bookish folks I’ve connected with that have lead me to beautiful books and authors like this one, books that open your eyes and your heart to the experiences of others and provide humanity and context to the inhumane that feels incomprehensible. Myself and bro @gmwiddop99 took a trip to University of Manchesters encampment today to show solidarity and support to the fantastic students who are taking part in the encampment.👏🏾 The demands from the students are that the Uni are to end its partnership with BAE Systems, end ties with Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, adopt a policy ensuring all research is ethical and does not contribute towards the arms trade, refrain from taking any disciplinary action against students. Who would've thought the universities our children, youth and the people attend (and pay ALOT of money to attend) are literally supporting and funding the ethnic cleansing of an entire race😡 Please do visit the students who are involved in the many encampments taking place around the UK at the moment. I wonder when the percentage of the population incensed by police brutality and the prison system in America will be great enough to topple the police state? We are reaching a tipping point. Very little makes you more willing to break rules than those claiming to maintain order breaking the law. Flagrantly. Trump. The cops. It would be a good time to revisit “My Grandmother’s Hands” by Resmaa Menakem. I read it around George Floyd’s murder or maybe slightly before. So much insight into policing in the United States. I will need to revisit to see if he talks about Israel in terms of policing and trauma. His focus is primarily slavery’s impact on policing. Police tactics are trauma responses by highly insecure people seeking to feel better about themselves by believing they are better than others. It is all connected. Read Menakem’s work and view the brutal police response to peaceful protests through that lens. I’ve seen Samsung pull out of Israel. Multiple arrests at Google. Lots of disruption around weapons manufacturers. I think I saw crickets released somewhere? (I mean, sad for the crickets, but creative.) As a student of revolution it is pretty cool to watch things heat up the way they have.
