Comment or tag any spaces you think would be interested in doing the classes at. I am leaving North Carolina feeling inspired. I have been teaching undergraduate acting students @uncsadrama Speech. In the classes, they explored how a handful of vowel sounds and consonants felt in their bodies and how it moved them through space. At the end of the course, one group used all the exploration with a poem, and they went outside and freely, openly, gave life to their poems to any who walked by. They rolled down hills and climbed trees all while speaking a poem they loved. Truly exploring the range of language from utilitarian to expressionism. While "Poem Day" is not something I came up with, it got me thinking about the connection to Community, Land and Language in Los Angeles. Because of many socio-political reasons, our connection to all these can sometimes feel lost. I want to have a class that fosters that connection and builds community and awareness of self as we consciously move through the world. Fostering communication and what it means to use your voice in a time when we are called to action. I am filled with so much appreciation, and I hope that I am writing this with some semblance of sense. It will be called a Re(membered) voice. Self-Help It dawned on me after class today that all of the books and teachings on self-help put together is simply the yogic path. We search and search for answers and the right way to help us heal, get healthy in mind/body/spirit, generate wealth and success, connect to the infinite consciousness, tap in to our limitless potential, meanwhile all of that is found within the dedication to the yogic path, the path to selfrealization, and the devotion to God. Everything else is compartmentalizing the human experience and repackaging what the ancient yogis have been doing all along. Through the discipline of the practices and purification of the body, the use of the breath as the sophiststed technology that it is, the yogi gains mastery of the mind with ease. When the pain, discomfort, suffering, and distractions are eliminated, one can truly begin to experience the incredible prana that flows through the body. This is the same prana that animates all of life. This is the experience of God within. Through this experience we remember who we truly are. We commune with the creator of all things, the lover of all people. Peace then radiates from our center. Love pulsates from our hearts. All the help we ever need to know and master the self is found from within. The path leads us home- to truth- to the ancient wisdom that courses through our beings- to freedom. It all begins and ends with you. Not happening to you or even for you, but rather FROM you. This is the truest liberation. Clear the way through the body, connect to your breath, still the mind, sense the incredible energy flowing through you at all times, and find an indestructible joy that is not dependent on anything external. After all, this life is an inside job.

I have to say regarding this; back in the day, well over a decade ago now, when I used to have a few drinks and then start talking about the oppression of the Palestinians or how dire things were in Liberia or the Rwandan genocide people would literally disengage from conversation as fast as they possibly could and ask me pretty swiftly “but why do you care?” Honestly if I had a dollar for every time I was asked that question I’d be rich! And initially it used to kind of stump me. I didn’t really have a ready-made answer for a question that I found, so bizarre. But then I simply started responding with “why don’t you care? “ after all, it was clear from what I had told them in the limited interaction that we had had, that things were horrifically bad for these people. And yet, despite knowing those things and appreciating how awful it must be to live that type of life, their first thought was to justify why it wasn’t their problem. The 4th Self Unfoldment Programme at Chinmaya Mission South Africa reached a fulfilling culmination on 10th April, with the grace of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda and the Guru Parampara. This specially curated course gives an opportunity to seekers at all points in their spiritual journey to come together under the guidance of an accessible spiritual master, within a sacred space, for a considerable time period - for students to rise to the right frame of mind, know the life-changing lessons of our ancient scriptures, and experience spiritual ecstasy devoid of compromise. From 10th March to 10th April 2024, 15 students from South Africa and India resided at the Durban Ashram, Headquarters of CMSA, and received a nourishing spiritual experience under our Pujya Swami Abhedananda. The students learned authentic Vedic chanting and basic Samskrit, taught by our Brahmacharins. Swami Abhedananda covered the Prashnopanishad and Chapter 7 of the Bhagavad Gita in full depth, enlightening students on the practical lessons, universal truths, and the path toward Moksha, as encrypted in our shāstras. The comforts and divine routine of the ashram along with the blessed darshan of our most beautiful Lord Shiva at the Chinmaya Shivam Temple have left an indelible mark in the hearts of students. An experience as this one is truly rare to have anywhere in the world!
