Night Time Economy Summit 2024 (Manchester) - Day One (08.02.2024) I can’t write this post without mentioning the incredible venue location! The Depot, Freight Island is a historical, industrial piece of architecture which is home to a cultural hub of food, drink and entertainment. And for any of you who likes(d) to party - you will recognise it as the home of Sacha Lord #TheWarehouseProject. It’s a vast multifaceted and multidimensional space where anything feels possible! The final panel session made my day - I listened to a collection of truly iconic DJ’s/Music Artists/Broadcasters talk about how best to cultivate home grown talent within the UK music industry. On stage was Lisa Maffia (So Solid Crew), Rowetta (Happy Mondays), Gary Powell (Libertines), DJ Aitch B (Soul II Soul) - they spoke openly to Ras Kwame about how difficult it was trying to make a name for themselves as up and coming young black artists at the time - and gave us some insight into how the industry can make changes for the future. Set times announced for The Haçienda Returns on Saturday, as part of the @whp_mcr season at @depotmayfield. The hottest ticket in town, it was sold out soon after announcement in July. Not surprising following last year's sensational Haçienda 40 celebrations, and given that @fac51thehaciendaofficial has come up with yet another incredible line-up, spread over five areas. I'm back in Depot - last year I was sandwiched between 808 State and the Happy Mondays, whereas this year I'm on from 7.25pm - 8.45pm, with @soul2souluk and @ianbrown either side. Doors open at 4pm with last entry is 7pm. Early arrival is advised. It will seem really strange not catching up with James Masters backstage, as was always the case at these Haçienda events, which he played such a big part in behind the scenes.
