💛Did you know 3/21 is world Down Syndrome Day? Down syndrome is a genetic condition where an individual has 3 of the number 21 chromosome, typical individuals only have 2 of each chromosome. That’s why 3/21 was chosen to be World Down Syndrome Day. This extra genetic material changes how their bodies grow and learn. 💙Down syndrome is the largest chromosomal disability in our country and yet, it is the least funded. With over 450,000 individuals with Down syndrome living in the US alone; and including impacted parents and siblings, over 2 million people face this diagnosis every single day. 1 in 700 live births results in a Down syndrome diagnosis. The average age to give birth to a baby is 28. With an 80-85% termination rate: much work remains to give babies a fighting chance for life, love and happiness. 💛GiGi’s Playhouse is an amazing facility with locations all over the county. We have one right here in Charlotte! Their Mission: is to increase positive awareness of Down syndrome through national campaigns, educational programs, and by empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community. Their Vision: is to see a world where individuals with Down syndrome are accepted and embraced in their families, schools, and communities. 💙As you may know our son Leo has Down Syndrome. You may see him around at The Playroom Social when you come to visit us. GiGi’s Playhouse has been an amazing place for us to go and feel supported. If you little one naps at 10:30am you aren’t required to stay the whole time.
