From 2010 until about 2019 I had the pleasure... the honor... of being the band Top Dead Center's "official photographer." I heard a lot of great music shooting photos/video for the band throughout those years but what was even more meaningful were the people I'd meet. Some (band members and friends/fans of the band) are still with us but others, like the band's leader Randy Clamons, keyboard players John Gatty and John Einweck, guitarist Michael Begala, crew chief Rob Lutes, to name a few, have passed on. Sadly, I have another name to add to the list of the dearly departed and it's with the blessing of his family that I share my memories of that person. Cliff Phillips, the band's lead crew chief and soundman, initially scared me when I first met him.🙂 He had a gruff exterior and was a no-nonsense kind of guy. I'd point my camera at him and he'd tell me to "get that thing out of my #%@* face." I shot the photos anyway, somehow knowing he was just kidding around. I soon learned that the dude had a heart of gold beating in his chest. But that heart has been stilled. Cliff passed away just before 4pm two days ago, March 26, 2024. I had been wondering why I hadn't seen much activity on his Facebook page recently. I've got the photos to remember him by plus a whole lot of like-new CD cases he gave me a few years ago. He knew I collected a lot of music and the cases would come in handy. Rest in peace, Cliff. May the four winds blow you safely home. You were one f**kin' cool guy, too. Lobe and rocker were in bad shape. 1 new camshaft, 3 new phasers, and all rockers and lash adjusters replaced. Should give me plenty of trouble free miles. However, I will be putting funds aside for the next time, because it’s getting replaced with a #hemi if I ever have to do it again.

I had to modify the TDC locater I bought as it was threaded inside which seemed a great way to stop it doing the one thing I want it to do. In the end all I used was the spark plug hole fitting part. Drilled out the inner threads and extended it with a socket. Added length helps get it in and out.
