Century Park Tavern 🍻 @centuryparktavern 📍 33 Powerhouse St, Toronto, ON M6H 4K7 Century Park Tavern is where locals of Davenport Village go for classic pub eats like burgers and fish and chips, as well as weekend brunch. Tucked away on Powerhouse Street just behind Lansdowne, the neighbourhood restaurant is inside a centuries-old building where steel and iron products like train cars were manufactured for nearly 80 years. Brick remains of the old factory's smokestack can still be seen where the patio now is. The historic building was also sold to General Electric in 1923 and powered the entire neighbourhood for a time. A vintage GE sign still hangs on the wall of the 95-seat dining room. It's now one of the few local dives in a largely residential area. Bookmark this place for your next bar adventure. The menu is very small, with about 16 items, and I'm going to share what I ordered Tonkatsu Sando with Curry Sauce is what drove me to this place. The first bite was that crispy and succulent meat, and the bread was nicely toasted. Add in that gravy and get ready to be on cloud nine. Sembei and Bifujaki are nice starter while waiting or getting yourself acclimated in your surroundings. The pairing goes well with a crispy rice chip and beef jerky to go along with your sake. Cabbage Salad, because I need my greens, was nicely done - reminds me of a potato chip you can't stop eating Fluke Tartare was an excellent small bite while sipping on some sake or beer. 📍 Old School My friend and I went to Old School for brunch. I ordered the blueberry pancakes with bacon on the side. The pancakes themselves were nice although a little bit dry. After obtaining a Michelin ⭐️ there, he has now ventured out under the same Liberty Group umbrella and this is where he really SHINES! He incorporates Asian influences into his modern Italian cuisine - a reflection of Toronto’s diversity and what he has learned during his time here. 🇨🇦 We LOVE his work at Da Nico. Favourite two dishes: spaghettoni ai funghi and merluzzo nero. Set in a historic (former bank) building, they really did this place justice! So much thought has gone into every detail of the ambience, the menu, and the wine list. I would be shocked if this restaurant does not get a Michelin star this year. ⭐️
