The Triumph pages from the Jaguar Rover Triumph all model catalogue from around 1977 (no date anywhere but there are no big saloons or Stag and I suspect I picked it up at the Earls Court Motorfair that year). Even though the Triumph range was shrinking by then, I’d still find room for most of these cars in my virtual garage. I learned to drive and passed my test in a yellow Dolomite 1500HL, so that’s obviously a special car for me, even if I’d rather own a Spitfire or a Dolomite Sprint. Dad bought the Dolomite 17 years ago. And it has been fairly reliable for all of that time. Until of course someone comes to look at it with the view to buying it. I’m told the test drive was going well until the engine blew up 🤦♂️ I truly believe that cars have souls and I think this is a prime example of a temper tantrum. This Coventry-registered car was originally built at the Triumph experimental department in 1972 as a prototype Dolomite Sprint (‘Swift’ was the factory code name for the model) and was the machine Ray Henderson used for initial motorsport development, with Gordon Birtwistle doing the test driving. CKV 2K was first seen in June 1972 at the Scottish rally, where such non-homologated cars were allowed to compete on that occasion. This was a full year before the Dolomite Sprint road car was ready to go on sale, which explains why fellow competitors and media people were not allowed to look under the bonnet of the new car. Like the forthcoming road car, it was equipped with the 1,998cc 16-valve engine backed by a TR4/2.5 PI-type four-speed gearbox with overdrive. Flared wheel arches allowed wider-than-standard wheels and tyres to be fitted. An official bid farewell to Jerif💙 . On 07/02/2024 I sold Jerif, my 1968 Triumph Herald (I'm late posting this I know). . Here are some of Jerif's most memorable moments: Slide 1. The last picture I have of Jerif ft. yours truely. Slides 2-4. How this little car made me feel - happy! Slide 5. One on the first drives I did in Jerif, the vibes were immaculate, enjoying 60s music in the british countryside during late summertime. Slides 6-7. A couple of pictures I took from the same day as slide 5 that I never shared. Slide 8. Jerif was back on the road after a month parked up with a bad clutch master cylinder. Slide 9. On of the few pictures I got with Jerif and his younger bigger brother that replaced him. Slide 10. The final 'pull' I did in him, probably got to 10mph under the speed limit there😂 . A little goodbye: I wouldnt write anything like this about selling a car usually as ive had so many now, however this little nugget was something special, he was my first proper classic car (40+ years old). It was impossible to be sad driving this car, the whole experience would just make me smile, it would turn a bad day into a good day at the turn of a key. Full of character and charm, Jerif always tried his best and never wanted to give up, I'd forgive him for anything. He was the best first classic car experience I could ever have hoped for and has really opened my eyes to the classic car market. Simple to work on, surprisingly easy to get parts for and more reliable than you would imagine. I was somewhat scared of classics before this car, now I find myself browsing the classifieds all the time. Life is too short to drive something boring, so go out there and buy something like Jerif; he only cost £2,400 so theres no excuse for lack of funds and the joy it will bring you is worth every penny!
