Starving. Two quick meals in a row at Ueno immediately after I landed. First went to the local stand-up stall （魚草）serving oysters, sashimi and tuna tartare. The steamed crab legs were already sold out when I got there and all other items were quickly gone one by one. Located in the busiest street in Ueno and I saw no tourist queuing up and only locals there. Minimum order of one drink for each 30 mins. Fast food style and really not bad for this price. As happening as happy hour. Second one, 重口味之選, specialising in offal stew and barbecue. You will find brain, heart, liver, tongue, tendon, intestines and even uterus on the menu. Almost most of the signature dishes were gone by the time I arrived and the guy next to me from Fukuoka told me this shop is popular among the locals here. No wonders. It is a great idea to use up every part of the animal and turn the cheap cuts into some kind of delicacies. I am relatively adventurous in term of trying different stuff but I still cannot bring myself to order that brain or uterus stew. It is time for dreams come true. It has been a long time in making but we are finally on our journey. We spent a long nights preparing, planning, crunching numbers and creating spreadsheets. Last month was all about appointments, to do lists and never ending decisions. We are still crunching numbers and writing to do/to see/to try lists but it is all worth it.
