A very special UMBowl at @hobboston with @umphreysmcgee The integration of lighting, video and camera effects continues expanding for us. Semi-technical slide by slide details below… 1 - RGB to the max. “Bad Friday” featured a saturated red, green and blue color look combined with the multicam program feed+RGB delay effect, making for a smattering of trippy delayed moments. Like a guitar delay pedal of color. 🟥🟩🟦 2 - Putting color and fire effects on the edges of the static wide angle camera to emphasize the tunnel video feedback trick. 🔥 3 - Using moving cameras to warp video feedback FX during “Making Flippy Floppy” 🫠🫠 4 - Infinite zoom layered on top of static wide angle. Serious light speed portal vibes. A little ridiculous, but worked well during intense moments. 🌀 5+6 - Umphreys improvises to iconic movie scenes. So cool. I mostly matched color palettes and accented explosions/gunshots when it felt right. 7 - During the S2 Improv section, a fan submitted the theme of lights leading the jam. This was so fun. I gave the band a tempo using dimmer effects and then suggested “release” points by pulling it out and changing color. UMBowl was one of my early Umphreys experiences as a fan in 2014, so 10 years later to not just be behind the board but “leading” a jam is a full circle moment indeed… Lastly - I must make a note of how hard the band worked for this event. 6 sets of new music, new covers, and on the fly fan-suggested improv is no joke. That shit is HARD. These guys give so much to their fan base and I hope it shows! They don’t have to do this, and we are lucky to have them in our lives. Summer Camp and Red Rocks are coming soon. UM dump \mm/ Saw night one of UM bowl last week and it was everything I expected and more. These boys still goin strong, and loving that everyone these days is doin crazy shit with a big ass screen behind them. It was kind of a special show for me ( #6 I think?) as the last time they were in Boston (2022) I caught @krismyersdrums drumstick when he threw it at the end and was feelin so good I ended up meeting the guy that night who is now my boyfriend, and 2 years later got to take him to the show that kind of started it all for us. He’s not much of a head but loved the show and it was an excellent time all around. Highlights included the stew art set (jams improvised in real time from prompts texted by the audience), some killer covers (Roundabout 😩), and some truly massive jams. And just like that, my next @umphreysmcgee show will be number 150 at @solshinereverie 🤘 That might seem a little insane to most people, who likely haven’t seen that many concerts in general, let alone from one band… I’m so happy I made the very last-minute choice to send it up to Boston for the 10th edition of UM Bowl. It was the last feather I needed in my Umphrey’s cap and I got to have a great time doing it with a bunch of friends old and new 🪶 🎩 They played six sets over two nights - five of them special themed sets. I enjoyed them all with the movie set being my favorite. Fans voted on famous movie scenes which the band then improvised to. I’ve been seeing them since 2003 and that was one of the coolest things I’ve seen them or any band do. Feeling the Umph Love right now after that awesome weekend which capped off an epic month of live music. i’m back posting about more bands. here’s where some of my dad rock taste comes in this is Umphrey’s McGee. they differ a bit from the other bands i listen to in that, they do feel a little bit more dad rock (i honestly don’t know how else to explain it, maybe because they’re a little older. ((sorry for calling you old, guys))). they experiment a bit, so they’re a little prog-rock-y too. lots of cool ideas in their music also their live shows are kinda insane. i haven’t been to one, but videos of their concerts are so cool. the lights are great (see the last slide for an example) and no song of theirs is ever performed in the exact same way. a bit of improv and jam band quality is always present. i love that they have a pretty large discography, so i haven’t even heard everything they’ve put out yet, so you might see some posts about them in the future as i chip away at their catalogue here are a couple pictures of them to get the vibe :) . . . . #umphreysmcgee #bands #rock #rockmusic #progrock #jamband #dadrock #music

Left Pittsburgh at 10pm on Tuesday and drove overnight to Vermont to see these guys 4 nights in a row. The Vermont shows blew me out of the water and of course #umbowl was by far the most unique concert experience I've ever had. @umphreysmcgee isn't a show to ever miss. Even moreso because of the absolute beauty of the souls of the people who attend. Hands down the best cross section of humans I have ever met. My heart is so full from all of the friendships I have forged over my first 20 shows as an Umphrey's fan. . . Highlights Vermont night 1 - my first ever DBK ‼️ Vermont night 2 - can I say the whole thing? Lets go with the "Hug Mosh Pit" during Gulf Stream ♥️♥️ UMBowl night 1 - Having my suggestion in the Jam Stew ("Just learned how to play last week") and finding 2 others in the crowd whose suggestions were taken (we wrote that set!) ✍️ UMBowl Night 2 - the new stew, Concessions.... Guys this song literally reached inside me and touched my soul. @goldlikejoel please keep this one in the rotation, it is magic and important and so well done. . . And super thanks to my bestie who travelled with me the whole way @jplani17 - if you hadn't stopped it the smashed guitar might have taken my eye out instead of just glancing off my face 👀 🤣 the true #umvip . .
