Boston based jeweler Concetta Nicoloro (Gracie C Jewelry) has always had a love for fashion & accessories. She graduated from Lasell with a BA in Fashion Design and Production and currently working towards her MBA in Sustainable Fashion Operations. With an appreciation for minimalistic jewelry and desire to learn, she took local community education metalsmith classes to start making jewelry she wanted but could not find. There she learned jewelry techniques and fell in love with the craft. After creating pieces for herself, family and friends Concetta expanded to selling her jewelry at local markets around the city. Still wrapping my head around it all…after months of planning with the original venue, a massive logistical issue there 17 days before the show had me pivot and move it to the legendary Scullers Jazz Club, and in a lightning fast series of serendipitous events during that pivot I was called to the exquisite Museum of Modern Renaissance, which was without a doubt the space where this film absolutely must be shot - and I never would have found it had I done the show at the original venue. I made a dress to wear for the shoot during the week before, and the bespoke leather jacket I’d been working on for months was finished two days before so I got to wear it for my beautiful show on Sunday, followed by a magical Monday filming in this stunning space with @revivalhouserecords . Grateful for my community and highly adaptable nature that led me here. One more editing session on the audio, then we are on to mixing, and cutting the videos together with some astrophotography and animation! Years, months, weeks and days of work all culminating in this project, and I’m thrilled with where it’s at. I can not wait to unleash this art baby in a few months! Another great week on the mountain! Sarah Louise French was in for a few days to work on her new project, as was Ellery Twining, here for our second together. It’s a blessing to get to work with such wonderful human beings every day.
Nine years ago… I had big goals when I started in ‘06, and one was to be in Tape Op, THE creative recording and production magazine. It’s not an easy publication to get into, and I assumed that since I operate by my own quirky rules, it would be unlikely. Well, it was because of that uniqueness that they reached out, having heard my work. It’s been a journey of discovery ever since, with an amazing team now beside me. I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew what I liked, and how I wanted things to sound. I knew how to put it all together sonically, even with the limitations gear-wise. How this guitar should sound and be played, and where it should go, how the drums should be played, and where they should go, etc. I stumbled into the “producer” thing, a term now overused in todays TikTok universe, but be that as it may. My life changed when issue #92 hit the stands, because it meant that this was, somehow, what I was meant to do, and that I no longer had to sell myself. My BIGGEST goal was, and still is, to show my daughter that with tenacity and a lot of hard work, you can achieve anything. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. I have this memory of sitting in a friends studio in Woodstock NY in 2004, a stack of Tape Op mags by the console. As I flipped through the pages, I thought, yeah, I can do this. That friend, a legendary musician/producer told me that I couldn’t do it, and that I lacked knowledge and the tools. He wasn’t wrong, but if I listened to him then, I wouldn’t be doing it now. We’re still friends, and I enjoyed putting it in his face lol. You must find what makes you unique, and unlearn the rules, to an extent. I’m now an occasional contributing writer for Tape Op, having written a few features. I’ve been long planning a piece on one of my heroes, producer James William Guercio (Chicago, Dennis Wilson, Beach Boys, etc) and his beloved Caribou Ranch in Nederland, Colorado, a place and town near and dear to me…Last pic at AES Convention with Tape Op Crew and their DF shirts! Let your freak flag always fly folks…

A Dirt Floor Minute-Episode 2
I met photographer Denis Semenyaka when Blue Eyed Blackbird brought him along to document their sessions. He did an incredible job, and was super easy to be around. His photographs are beautiful, capturing everyone deep in creative mode without getting in the way. That's not easy to do. Denis is now our official in house photographer, available to all DF artists, shooting in studio, and on the property, for promotional, album, and website photos. Sometimes you find things on the innernets that you’ve forgotten all about. This was Dirt Floor when it was in my house in 2009. The house was a funky, sprawling rambler style ranch, with a bedroom at the far end which housed the studio. The tape recorder was in a closet, which means i was in the closet, to run the machine AND play the steel.
