Imagine spending years criticising vaping just to turn around and start peddling it yourself with an insanely high price tag. That's what our government is doing. They saw the enormous profits they could make by taking the industry for themselves, pushing out vape stores in order to create a monopoly they control. They champion their prescription vapes as 'safe' even though they're identical to most disposable vape designs. They still use all the same ingredients, same method for atomisation. They just want you to think it's different, to think they were the ones that made it safe. But they've done nothing. With higher nicotine levels than almost all disposables (59mg), who is our government trying to help with their prescription vapes? The answer is no one. Preparations are being made to ban e-cigarettes (vapes) in Nepal due to increasing usage among youth and concerns over health risks. Dr. Bhakta Bahadur KC, Information Officer of the National Health Education, highlighted that e-cigarettes are as harmful to health as traditional cigarettes. Banning disposable vapes will not be “effective”, the boss of the UK’s largest tobacco firm has told the BBC. Tadeu Marroco, chief executive of British American Tobacco (BAT), also said raising the smoking age would have “non-intended consequences”. The government plans to outlaw disposable vapes next April as part of the “biggest public health measure in decades”. BAT is the UK’s third-largest vape seller. Sales of disposable vapes - which give a few hundred puffs of nicotine-containing liquid before being thrown away - have skyrocketed in recent years in Britain. It is estimated hundreds of millions are now sold every year, many of them illegal. Last week the government published the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which will ban the sale of tobacco to anyone born from 2009 onwards, and bring in on-the-spot fines for retailers caught selling to under-18s. But Mr Marroco said such a ban had not worked overseas. “In other countries this hasn’t been effective,” he said. “In Australia they have banned the whole category, and the amount teenagers use in the illegal market is very high. The same is happening in Brazil,” he added. However, campaigners believe otherwise. A proposed ban on the sale of flavored vape products drew passionate testimony at a public hearing today. Dozens of people submitted written and oral comments, both for and against Senator Tom Fisher's bill, which is aimed at preventing youth e-cigarette use. The measure cites studies that show that more than 80% of young people who use tobacco, first used a flavored product. Grace Bordallo, representing Public Health, points to an alarming survey funded by the WHO and the CDC. "Guam has the highest cigarette youth rate in the region and among all us states and territories. we should protect our youth by removing harmful products including flavored e-cigarettes which have ingreditents that are not only harmful to the development of their brains but can also cause other bodily injuries," she testified. Also testifying against the measure was self-described vaper Chris Bawar. He says prohibiting flavored products will not eliminate youth vaping, and that there are other important issues to consider such as the economic impact and the infringement on constitutional rights. "Our call today is not a defense of tobacco use but the defense of our rights, choices and the principles that make our society strong. we urge policy makers to consider alternative approaches that balance public health with individual freedoms and economic well-being. together we can find solutions and address concerns while respecting the rights and choices of adults in our community," he said. If the bill is passed and signed into law, it requires that six months after enactment any flavored vape products would be seized, and fines would be imposed against businesses that still sell them. #kuam #guam #news #local #community #vapeban #vaping #govguam
