An absolutely stunning, fossil gar that was found at the Fossil Safari quarry several years ago by Warfield Fossils. At 2 1/2 feet long, it is a small one. Gars are the largest fish in the Green River Formation, reaching lengths of over 5 feet long. They are also one of the rarest fossil fish to be found with maybe one or two complete ones being found in an average season. Their robust, shiny scales can frequently be found in the rock. The snow melted and the access road dried out enough that we were able to get into the quarry late last week to assess the work needed before opening day. We will now be able to start the intensive process of exposing more rock for customers this week. I did break down a few pieces of rock left on the pile from last season. Here is a Priscacara serrata which was in one of them. Weather conditions have been fairly mild this spring which will allow us to start bulldozing this coming week.
