DnA are at their best with Nova when it's a stand alone, episodic sci-fi comic, and I think they realize this. despite the Secret Invasion tie-in header, this still feels like a natural progression of the story they've been telling. they just deftly use some SI elements to move their pieces around the board. Richie's flying solo now since the strain of escaping Galactus' energy siphons burned up Worldmind. and Richie being Richie, he's carrying the guilt of losing the sum total of Xandarian culture around his neck like a yoke. he responds to a distress call from a lush rain forest planet, and finds it's being invaded by Skrulls, one of whom is Kl'rt. Kl'rt actually turns against his Skrull brethren and helps Richie defeat them. he goes on to tell how he's become disillusioned by their constant warring ideology, and has become a pariah amongst his own kind. he clues Richie in to the planned invasion of earth, and they both high tail it out there, only for Richie to find he's been set up by Kl'rt, who is attempting to use Richie's capture to curry favor with his people. or is he? turns out that may also be a ruse, but to find out the whole story, you gotta read some She-Hulk issues, which I won't be doing. oh well, at least Richie's back on earth. he tracks his brother, Robbie, down to Project Pegasus, and finds it's under assault by Skrulls. he and Darkhawk, PP's current security chief, defend the facility, and the scientists there manage to get Worldmind back online, who begins coordinating their defenses. the scientists, incidentally, are Director Gruenwald, an obvious Mark Gruenwald stand in, and Dr. Evelyn Necker, a character Abnett created in Death's Head II. there she was working on a Minion cyborg project, and here we see those same Minions turn the tide against the Skrull invasion. pretty fun callback. also Wendell's alive, now an energy being, his consciousness having somehow survived being killed by Annihilus. even with their combined efforts, it seems the Skrulls have the upper hand. until the Nova Corps show up to save the day. wait what? BIG revelations are coming. man, this book is so good.
this is a straight up classic arc. not only do DnA tell a compelling story set during the chaos of a Galactus-is-here planetary evacuation, but they also bring a banger new idea to Galactus lore. Richie responds to a distress call from a planet in the middle of being eaten by Galactus. but by the time he arrives, it's too late to stop the Big G from doing his thing. the only thing left to do is help as many folks as he can get off the planet in their escape arks. he's disgusted when the planet's leader requests that he save the wealthy people first, and outright refuses, opting to help the lower class citizens who've been left to rot by their own government. hell yeah, Richie. in the planet's slums, he finds Harrow, a psychic entity possessing innocents and sending them on murderous rampages. he puts a stop to it, trapping Harrow, but by now, the planet's destruction is imminent, and Galactus' machines are causing feedback preventing the arks from lifting off. so Richie flies into orbit, attempting to make contact with Galactus to plead for just a few more hours. he's met by the Silver Surfer, and gets his ass beat for like half an issue, before the Surfer hears the request and grants it. finally, Richie's able to get the refugees off planet. EXCEPT! Harrow escapes, and in the time it takes Richie to contain it again, Galactus is now eating the planet, blocking Richie's attempts to escape, trapping him to die on this planet. EXCEPT! Richie escapes via one of Galactus' energy siphons, winding up on the Big G's ship. too bad the strain was too much for Worldmind, and he shuts down completely, leaving Richie to fend for himself. he finds Harrow's physical body nesting deep within Galactus' ship. turns out, unbeknownst to Galactus, he's picked up a parasite during Byrne's Trial of Galactus, one that uses the fear he inspires to feed itself. Richie and the Surfer take care of it once and for all, and Galactus gives Richie a one time pass. between the frantic struggle of a planet trying to save itself during a Galactus event, and the dispassion displayed by Galactus himself, balanced by the Surfer's cold empathy, this one has it all.

Vraiment sympa cette série Red She-Hulk qui n'a durée que l'espace de 10 numéros (deux arcs) du 58 au 67 et qui suivait la numérotation de la série originale du Red Hulk de Jeph Loeb et reprise par Jeff Parker. En deux kiosques (the) Avengers HS 1 et 3. Donc toujours Jeff Parker au scénario, accompagné cette fois ci par Wellington Alves et Carlo Pagulayan (Deathstroke Rebirth 😍) aux dessins. Une série qui s'appuie encore une fois sur des second couteaux comme Machine Man, et toujours se général Fortean lancé cette fois ci aux trousses de la version féminine du Rulk. Des références faite au Hulk original avec le fils de l'Homme Taupe, des soldat surbooster. Avec en point de chute une sorte de prequel a Minority Report et donc Civil War II, avec un personnage voyant l'avenir. Sorte de precog qui voit un avenir tragique pour l'humanité. Written by Anthony Johnston Art by Wellington Alves, Nelson Pereira and Bruno Hang Cover Art by Julian Totino Tedesco I found this interesting curiosity on sale in the comic shop. Like the other books in the ‘Season One’ line produced by Marvel 10 years ago, the purpose of this book is to summarise the early adventures of a classic hero I a way that is friendly to new readers. What makes this particular book interesting is the decision to focus on reimagining the original 1960’s version of Daredevil (in other words, the version that was less successful than the 1980’s revival. As such, many of the more iconic elements associated with the character are not present here - for example, he is wearing the original yellow suit throughout rather than the red. Iconic villains from later DD stories such as Kingpin and Bullseye are also missing, replaced instead by more colourful rogues such as the Matador and Mr Fear. Whilst not everybody’s cup of tea, I did enjoy this as a somewhat different take on DD, which manages to balance the Lawyer by day/ Vigilante by night duality quite well by presenting a legal thriller mystery weaved in alongside the superhero action. Just don’t expect anything too groundbreaking. I’d recommend this to anyone who fancies experiencing early Daredevil, but doesn’t want to fork out loads of money on lots of 1960’s comic reprints. Recently I read! Amazing Spider-Man: The Movie Adaptation #1-2, plus Amazing Spider-Man: The Movie Infinite Comic, all written by Tom Cohen, art on the adaptation by Wellington Alves, Manny and Anderson Clark. Art on the Infinite Comic (originally online) by Daniel Govar and Andrea Di Vito. Both of these are weirdly released in 2014 as part of a “prelude to” the ASM 2 movie (feat. Andrew Garfield as Spidey-Pete and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy!) (Also Jamie Foxx as Electro—and another dude as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin). The idea, I guess, was to catch potential viewers up on the first movie in advance of the second—but then—wouldn’t they just rent or stream the movie? It’s kind of confusing. At any rate, the adaptation adapts the movie with minor changes (the cops tase Spidey instead of shooting him—kinda interesting from a sociopolitical point of view—and some other scenes are removed or truncated). Spidey origin, Spidey romances Gwen and reveals his identity to her, Spidey fights the Lizard, Spidey cures the Lizard, George Stacy dies helping Spidey—etc. The Infinite Comic takes place between ASM and ASM2…and Spidey fights some random thugs—gets his costume torn up—and Gwen helps him design a new one. This exists to explain the new costume in the new movie, it seems?
