Most people only see the final product of our Mariachi and ballet folklorico programs and don't get to experience the magic happening behind the scenes. For weeks before their performances at LBC’s Art of Dessert fundraising gala last month, both afterschool groups were workshopping and honing their skills to deliver the best performance at the event. Normally, they practice in separate rooms at our Education and Community Engagement classrooms, yet the compatible programs are always aware of each other’s activity nearby. One afternoon, as the mariachi students were warming up on a song for Art of Dessert, the dancers heard it and spontaneously jumped in to dance along, creating a fun and joyous space before performing. They even drew a picture of each other on our whiteboard in the Education studio! Our programs go far beyond just music.
