For a recent birthday dinner we enjoyed this 2014 Signorello Napa Valley Cab. Although a small percentage of reviews from 2020 were not too flattering, we thought it was a well-balanced wine. The extra four+ years in the bottle could have played a part no doubt. Deep red fruit, acid & tannins that were nicely rounded, and a wonderfully long finish was our experience. I chuckled as I opened it to decant awhile as the "pine needle" scent most Napa Cabs emit was evident. (One way I distinguish Napa Valley from Sonoma's Alexander Valley Cabs.) And I'm thankful yet again to Costco for selling a great wine at nearly half of the market price -- good way to enjoy exceptional wines on a budget! In 2017, Signorello Estate, on the Silverado Trail, was completely burned down by the wildfires that ravaged the wine country. They weren't the only affected, but perhaps among the worst. We really should visit them again sometime soon to see their new facilities. We were last there over a decade ago... There is still a community of family wine producers in Napa Valley and they deserve to be visited. The Komes and Garvey Family have made their intention to produce wines that hone in on what Napa Valley is all about. They are proud producers who are producing stellar and exciting wines. @florasprings is a producer I have been fortunate to visit several times on highway 29 in St. Helena. The wines present a superb sense of place and a vast array of tasting experiences based on site. I have long admired the small production vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines of Holy Smoke, Wild Boar and Out of Sight as expressing the finesse of Napa Valley Cabernet. Cabernet in my thoughts is not a wine that is made easily but one that is made with great effort–from vineyard to crushing pad and to the cellar. These wines have an uncanny ability to age for 2-3 decades, and while the 2004 is slightly more forward and evolved than other vintages have been (2001 and 2002), it should last for 20-25 years.
