Almost a decade ago I bought my first house. It was in “the country”; a few acres, no neighbors, well established fruit trees and bushes.. a perfect area for gardening. Plenty of room for my chickens. I was 24 years old and determined to be a country bumpkin. My most successful crop? Cukes. And lots of them. So, I taught myself how to can and made pickles. Flash forward several years, a divorce, a couple of moves, a new marriage and another home purchase later- here I am. Doing it all over again. With one jar left of my original batch of pickled- you know, for nostalgic purposes… Only now I’ve turned into one of those conspiracy theorists who refuses to be slowly poisoned through chemicals and additives in my food and household needs simply to be forced into funding b!g f@rma.
