🐝 World Bee Day 🐝 How have you been celebrating world bee day? Today was all about bees. We read about the importance of bees as pollinators, we talked about the life cycle of bees, we learnt about the different types of bees, and even went on a little bee hunt. Mottaqi built several beehives using playdough and then placed little bees in them. He counted the number of bees inside and used his resin numbers to show the numeral. Mottaqi also had a lot of fun with the smooshy sand - he loved picking it up and dropping it through his fingers. He also did a lot of stamping using his roller. The flower stones made beautiful imprints in the playdough - he made bees come and visit them to pick up pollen and nectar. Baby Adeel grabbed the playdough and then managed to get his hand on some rice - he was having so much fun, so I let him sit in the tray to explore and play. Both boys swished the pasta and rice around and had so much fun. 🩵 Exploring Emotions 🩵 Sensory play provides a whole host benefits to childrens cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional development. As it's mental health awareness week, I wanted to use a sensory play to promote discussion around emotions and how to deal with them. Mottaqi loved making different faces with our natural loose parts. He asked for feathers to use as hair on his 'grumpy' face so I grabbed our feathers for him - what do you think of his creations? Whilst reading the books, we looked through the illustrations to talk about the emotions and Mottaqi matched his feelings puppets to each page. Mottaqi also really enjoyed using the puppets for imaginative role play, and we talked about how the puppets would be feeling in each scenario. Our sensory play setup from after school the other day. Mabel is keen to learn all about bugs, which we have been by visiting the library for some non fiction books. Anyway, I digress. She has found ladybirds really interesting so for this play I used @little.messy.hands filler and collected things that could be incorporated into our fairy garden. I included the birds for two reasons; we could start discussing food chains should there be the opportunity. Secondly, Tobias is obsessed with birds so this would entice him to join us too. We had a wonderful time together- initially anyway. Believe it or not, I prepared this activity from 2 weeks ago. from making a pinwheel slide (inspired by my new idol @_walkinginthewild, go check her page you'll be amaze) to dyed the dry sensory its a long way, but indeed I enjoy all the process. I added some cups with a shark face on it too, so its gonna be looks like we feed the shark with 'water' (cause I painted the chickpeas & pasta with blue color 😝 and extra white rice) Alicia looooves to hang with this sensory game thing. First she tried the pinwheel slide, she eyeballed it and curious how could the pinwheel can rotating and make the 'water' go sliding. 🤩 so I explained her simply- cause there's a push force from the water to the pinwheel that makes it rotate. That's it! I don't want to treat her as if she's 3 years older 😂😂 The good news is.. We really made the most of the sunshine this weekend and one of Edward’s favourite setups was this colourful bubble car wash! We love using our @waytoplaytoys roads (gifted) in all sorts of situations and they’re perfect for this as you can just wipe them off and leave them to dry afterwards. Edward loved matching the colour of the cars to the bubbles, dunking the cars in, then giving them a good old scrub and rinsing them off again. I included a spray bottle and a squirty bottle for added interest as well as a jug and bowl of bubbly water. Any sort of water play is always a winner! After a lot of time playing at the beach on holiday last week, Edward has been keen for some more sand play so I set up this monster truck tuff tray. Tuff tray play is one of our favourites but when on holiday, a washing up bowl on the balcony will do! I just added some water, plastic sea creatures and Edward’s Octonauts toys… we even listened to his Octonauts @tonies_uk while we played.
