We mixed several types of material to create an original setting to represent the Spring (but it could be a nice Idea also for Mother's Day) 🌹Materials: - cardboard - felt - egg carton - red origami paper. - yellow crepe paper - white thick paper - glue (vinyl and glue gun) - acrylic paints 🌹Step-by-step : 1. Cut a frame, and other items like leaves, out of cardboard. 2. Make different flowers using crepe paper, felt, egg cartons or origami paper. 3. Paint the cardboard elements. 4. Glue the white paper to the back of the frame. 5. Glue differents items to the frame and keep few flowers to design a bouquet in the center of the frame. 🖼️🌷🌹🖼️🌷🌹🖼️🌷🌹 🇨🇵 Le recy'cadre de recy'fleurs. 🕷️ POND DIPPING 🕷️ What better activity for a sunny afternoon than a spot of bug hunting and garden pond dipping!.. The boys have had lots of fun, looking at how many different pond creatures they can find and trying to identify them.. They took it in turns to use the net to take a scoop of pond water and empty it into their exploratory tray.. they then used their treasure tubes to take a closer look.. William was fascinated by the skeleton leaves that he fished out of the pond, so we have set some of these on the side to dry out to explore further.. Rainbow Ice Garlands 🌈 @our.tiny.moments little scientists have been busy exploring exploring changes in temperature! Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius but as the ice sitting in the tray starts to melt and forms a small pool of water on top of the ice cube you can add salt to the ice which lowers the freezing temperature even further! It was a very rainy day today. We played several games. One of which was Treasure Hunt. It's a counting and coin collecting game. We didn't follow the rules completely, as he set it up. Tulip Math We played some math addition with tulips! I used brown sea vegetables for earthworms. They cut petals for making ice cream. Turtle and snail Weaving activity These were a lovely craft that I did with my kids last year..I set up a cardboard circle (snail) and semi circle (turtle) with wool and then we wove them with different coloured wools in striped to make a rainbow. Weaving is a great way to encourage fine motor skills and concentration. Happy crafting friends
🌸 Floral Water Play 🌸 Have you been enjoying the glorious sunshine today? Doesn't it instantly lift your mood when the sun is out? I wanted to enjoy some time in the garden, so I set out a water activity for Mottaqi to play with. It started off pink, but he wanted to have a rainbow of colours as well as his flower stones, so I adapted the tray to his request. He had so much fun mixing the colours, pouring, scooping and making potions. Baby Adeel enjoyed splashing the water and picking out flower - great fine motor skills there with his developing pincer grip. By the end the water may have looked murky but both boys had sooo much fun. Mottaqi was pouring water all over his feet and baby Adeel was soaking wet. Open-Ended Small World Play I was so inspired by @joys.of.learning webinar on “Small Worlds, Big Stories” as part of @scholarschoice free webinar series. The first thing I’d like to say is this type of setup is Teresa’s idea. Thank you so much for the inspiration! If you’re interested in a bit more of the story behind this… read on. If you know me, you know I love an epic setup - and I think there is a place for it… both my kids and I enjoy it and it probably provides some good modelling for them. However, sometimes I worry I’m doing too much of the creative thinking up front and complicating the activity more than I need to. So, when I saw this type of simple, pared down approach to a small world play invitation - I wanted to try it and see what my kids did with it. The progression of play was 1. They coloured the wood peg people as themselves (of course 😂, my kids love to colour natural wood!) 2. They started experimenting with the materials and threaded some branches through bead holes. 3. Then the play kind of stalled, and they left the activity. 4. The next morning I tried modelling what they might do with the materials - I drew a road on the brown paper and put out a basic foundation for a house… and then the play exploded. 5. They drew more roads, they each built their own house across the street from each other and put a sidewalk in between. They veered into some STEM building with their houses, which was great! They made gardens, deserts where lizards could live, and stacked cups on top of each other for a “hideout” at each house. So this turned out super fun and I loved watching their creativity. 🌊 WHALE SHARK 🌊 We are back with our ocean topic again today, and this morning we have been looking at whale sharks. Did you know that the whale shark is the biggest fish on Earth… !.. It grows longer than a double-decker bus and is heavier than two full-size elephants!.. The whale shark although gigantic, is actually a gentle giant, and feeds by sucking in great mouthfuls of water, then filtering out algae, fish and coral eggs, shrimp, and baby fish to eat. Before we went on holiday Henry had started a project to build his own whale shark, and finally got to add the finishing touches this morning.. He used the skills that he had learned from his book ‘Art Shaped’ by @darrellwakelam , although this was his own project and is not actually in the book. Just to give it that ‘Henry touch’ he insisted on adding some lights to make some of its beautiful white spots glow.. but he was careful to make these fully removable so the finished piece can actually still be fully recycled when the time comes.. ( although we will definitely be keeping it for quite some time! ).. Before you all roll your eyes at another of our @darrellwakelam inspired projects, I would just like to point out that .. No, this is not an advertisement.. No, we are not getting paid, and No, we have definitely not been asked to relentlessly plug his book 🤣..
